Jolly Roger Bar Fortitude Valley — Restaurant in Brisbane City

I love trying to visit as many great punk rock bars around the world as I can, and stumbling upon the Jolly Roger totally made my night! A friend of mine found it while searching some places on a Monday, and I’m so glad we stopped in.

It was far from packed, but there was still a birthday party and a few regulars around - I can only imagine what it’s like on a weekend - and our bartender was the best. She made a ton of recommendations and offered small samples to offer up a variety of great rum from the collection.

The three of us had a mix of a few beers and cocktails, and never waited too long to be looked after. The soundtrack was heavy on 00’s/10’s pop-punk, emo, screamo, and metal - zero complaints here.

Honestly the bar tender was kinda mean to my friend and I. We asked for a recommendation on a drink, like what was good/popular and said “oh we’ll have anything” and he proceeded to give us glasses of water. We weren’t intoxicated, we just hadn’t been out to a bar in a while and weren’t sure what to order. He didn’t do it in a funny joking way either, it was quite rude and put us off completely. He then proceeded to yell at me and my other friends about our masks, again we hadn’t been out in a while and weren’t 100% clear on the new COVID restrictions/rules in terms of masks and sitting/standing. We had drinks (the water) in our hands so our masks were around our chins. I had been served by this bar tender once before and he was really nice and recommended me a nice drink the first time. I had been to the bar many times usually on a weekday and was quite often the only person in the bar. Decided this Saturday to take three friends there and hyped the cocktails.

The one guy with the crusty mustache behind the bar looked busy and flustered. I ordered four cocktails all the same and was treaded with open hostility for my drink choice and not understanding how busy they were.

We had one round and went elsewhere.

I would go back but if crusty is there I am taking my money elsewhere.
