My friend and I were looking for a place to eat in the Valley and after reading the reviews decided to come here. First off, this is more of a Chinese restaurant rather than a Vietnamese restaurant as the dishes are more Chinese dishes Our experience here was not the best and our orders got mixed up four times; how they got our orders wrong four times I'm not too sure. My friend ordered stir fried duck and mushrooms and I ordered flat rice noodles with beef. The first dish came out and was served to my friend. It was a beef dish but because it had no noodles, my friend and I both thought it was hers. She proceeded to eat when one of the waitresses tells me it's my dish. I let the waitress know that my dish was a noodle dish and there aren't any noodles; she tells me they're underneath which I could immediately tell from looking, there were no noodles. I tell the other waitress it's not the dish I ordered so she takes it to the back. Another dish comes out and is served to my friend, which is a duck dish but not stir fried duck. I then get served a dish and am told it's beef but I look at the dish and again there are no noodles and it definitely wasn't beef; my friend said that it was her dish as it was stir fried duck. I end up going to the front and telling one of the waitresses that again this is not my dish and she goes to the kitchen to tell one of the other waitresses. My friend says that's her dish and so they give it to her. I eventually get my dish after four goes. After waiting for so long I was expecting the dish to be good but ended up being disappointed as it was not good. The only good thing about the dish was the beef, which was tender but everything else did not taste good. If you're looking for good Vietnamese food, don't go here as the food isn't good and you might get the wrong order served to you. What was even more disappointing was that I didn't get an apology for getting the order incorrect so many times.

*Not The Vietnamese Restaurant as it was before-pandemic* The owner of this restaurant has not changed as verified by the Australian Business Registry query. More importantly, the service staff are as warm yet efficient as before. However, the quality and value of the food/menu has drastically changed beyond what would be expected from post-pandemic necessities. I have it on excellent authority and from tasting the dishes, that there is a new chef at the restaurant, one that seemingly cuts corners to deliver a product without regard to the 'soul' this previously excellent place one had. As a customer of The Vietnamese Restaurant for over 5 years, it is with a heavy heart that I no longer recommend this place as an Asian restaurant worthy of consideration. I certainly hope that the 30+ years owner of The Vietnamese Restaurant does what is necessary to prevent this Brisbane icon from going out with a whimper.

I'm really not sure what to make of this place and you definitely don't come here for the decor. Musty carpeted floor is reminiscent of what one might imagine to be going on in the neighbouring seedy venues. We had the Goi Cuon, Wonton Mi xa xiu and Pho Bo Vien. I was really happy with the banh Trang( rice paper) that is essentially the Cuon. It wasn't soft and soggy like how most places around serve it, in fact it was quite firm and chewy, really exactly how it's meant to be. The prawns were plum and flavoursome and the bean sauce was delicious, just needed more crushed peanuts. The wonton Mi xa xiu was ok too. The noodles were nice and still a little chewy and the xa xiu was delicious. All in all the food was ok and the price was very reasonable for the food we ordered.

My guest and I experienced terrible customer service and a very rude waitress when we returned one of our meals, a stir-fry with a large piece of half raw chicken in it. The treatment we received from the waitress was totally unacceptable and unprofessional, especially after serving us a meal that could have caused us food poisoning! I have been going to The Vietnamese Restaurant for many years and it is usually fresh and tasty. I had lunch there this weekend and after eating half my chicken stir-fry, I found a thick, half cooked, half raw piece of chicken in the meal. Sometimes these mistakes can happen, so I told the waitress so they could fix the meal. The waitress was rude and dismissive, saying half the meal was already eaten, so it must be paid for. When I asked if the meal could be re-cooked with fresh ingredients, she walked off angrily without responding. Eventually another waitress said we can pay for the half of the stir-fry that was eaten or get another one cooked which we would pay full price for. The waitress I dealt with was very rude, impolite and aggressive in her manner towards us. We felt very uncomfortable and as a result we left the restaurant with our food as take away. If a restaurant makes the mistaken of serving raw chicken, they should be apologetic and replace the meal free of charge. If we had become sick with something like salmonella poisoning from eating raw chicken, the restaurant would no doubt face bigger problems then waving a $15.00 lunch meal. Because of the poor customer service (rather than a possible meal preparation mistake), we will be...

I love dining at The Vietnamese restaurant, whether alone or within a group. I have been doing so now for some 25 or more years as it was the very first of it's cuisine I have experienced in my early life as an immigrant to Brisbane. I have been many, many times and introduced many friends, family and others to it over the years, whether lunch or dinner. The food has always remained consistently good in terms of flavour, servings, value for money. I don't recall ever a below standard quality with their food. The staff over this period have been reasonably attentive and pleasant, though just that. It's too busy at times to be more personable. The atmosphere pleasant enough, the ambience...well before the property was gutted by fire, it was very pleasant with lovely Vietnamese art work on the walls, adding colour and depth a visual treat. Though not excessive. A bonus in my view is that it is also a BYO drinks venue....3$ cover for a btl of wine. Since the fire though, it's more a room to dine in. A table, chairs and cutlery. The air-conditioning filters are filthy, leaving aweful black marks on the ceiling too. Also it looks disgusting and I fail to understand why? Anyhow, I...
