I have been here quite a few times and the food and experience has always been exceptional. This time however was a total disaster. Not sure if new owners but itās definitely not the same place we used to enjoy going to.
We took our friend visiting from Sydney here last night. I called ahead to make sure it was okay to arrive at 8:45pm for dinner. They said it was fine as the kitchen was still open.
My partner ordered a whiskey high ball which came out with not one, but two flies in it.
We ordered edamame beans. Half were lukewarm and the other half still frozen. Took us 5 minutes to get a waiterās attention. We watched as the chefs had a discussion about it. Instead of attending to the stuff up straight away, they focused on other orders so it was another 10 minutes before we got them. This time they were too hot, so much so the waiter almost dropped the bowl on the table. Crucially, they also forgot to put salt on them. So we waited another 5 minutes just to get some salt..
We ordered the mixed gyoza platter and there was absolutely no care given when these came out. The pastry was broken on a few so the meat inside was exposed. It was dreadful. We felt so embarrassed to have our taken our friend here as we talked it up so much.
To top things off, we never got our miso soups that we ordered for entrees. As we had paid up front via their ordering app (which they prefer you to use) we were still given them after we mentioned it, but at the very end of the meal, after all the other food had come out. They were lukewarm and one bowl had no tofu while the other had about 15 pieces in it.
The whole experience lacked any care or respect for their customers. We saw the chefs attending to quite a lot of Uber Eats orders, so it felt like actual customers were second rate. We may as well have been at McDonalds.
I would have preferred to talk to someone there about my woeful experience but because we had already paid for our meal, it was near impossible to get a waiterās attention and they didnāt even say goodbye/thanks for coming when we were packing up to leave. We were basically invisible and just left.
It has made me think about the ordering and paying in advance scenario which I might refrain from in future as you can at least discuss how your meal was at the end of the night and see how the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreParticularly disappointed with the level of value for money. We have dined here many times in the past and the quality and serving sizes have unfortunately gotten smaller.
We ordered the spicy karaage chicken which cost $15 and received 5 tiny pieces of chicken approximately a 20 cent piece size each. The table next to us ordered normal karaage that was $13 and we noticed a significant difference in the serving sizes as there's was 5 much larger pieces of chicken.
The ramen had hardly any noodles and 2 small pieces of pork.
Overall, I am sad to say I won't be returning. This used to be our favourite place.
In response to the reply by Tatsu below, as I mentioned above the spicy karaage chicken which we ordered was significantly smaller than what we have received from tatsu in the past. The table seated beside us that ordered the original karaage received a significantly larger portion size for less money, which would be the size that we have normally received in the past. Usually when we also order the Karakara ramen there has been few generous thick cut pieces of pork belly. The ramen we received tonight had 2 very small thin slices of pork, about half the size of my palm and also very dry, also one of the ramens we ordered had barely any noodles in it.
It appeared very little notice was taken in actually what was served up. As I mentioned before, we have dined here at least 15 times prior to coming back and have noticed the quality of the food and quantity has reduced. It almost feels like the restaurant has changed ownership with the significant difference...

Waking up in Fortitude Valley of all places with a searing hangover on a 33 degree day is possibly one of the worst combinations in the world but you know what else is a terrible combination? Someone that owns a restaurant who has gone to a pottery expo, visited the ānovelty oversized bowlsā section and gone. Yep how much? Iāll take them all for my Ramen restaurant. You know why this is a bad combination? Because you get some gimcrack size bowl that detracts from what could be a decent ramen. If I wanted a humongous concave object that held a lot of liquid I would visit the Vredefort Dome and be done with it. (Google it or swipe right) Anyway ghastly bowl aside - this ramen wasnāt too bad to be honest. Unlike the restaurant in LA with the same name the egg was far too overcooked but the broth held its own - a nice and spicy effort with a good rich porky structure to it. The Chashu was extremely fatty but wasnāt too chewy so claps for this, itās a pity it has to sit in this god awful bowl. The ramen could have done without the finely sliced cabbage, it added a crunch that just isnāt necessary in ramen but each chef to their own. ⣠Final notes: Tatsu, get some normal bowls for god sake and improve the egg and we might be onto something. ā£ ā£ š„¢š„¢š„¢š„¢š„¢ā£ Broth Flavour: ššš/5⣠Soup ingredients: ššš/5⣠Service: šššš/5⣠Overall:...
