Hubby and I decided to head out for breakfast/brunch on the recent public holiday. Perhaps not a wise idea?! This was our first time at this very Italian café – i.e. run by Italians and frequented by them too. There was a lot of chatter around us, which certainly added a touch of authenticity to the experience. Sadly, we felt very left out. As is customary, orders are taken at the counter, and food brought out to your table. The waiter who was also the chef, thumped our plates on the table with barely a word. There were no greetings, no smiles, no recognition at all. We were both surprised by the coffee; we had expected a good cuppa but no, they were weak and not a good flavour. I’ve been having a lot of coffee at my local recently, and this was nowhere near as good. But the food was good value; a good price with generous plates. Hubby chose the Vulcanici with meatballs and scrambled eggs. The meatballs had a nicely tender texture but were very bland. The menu mentions chilli, but hubby sadly could not detect any. His eggs were eggs, ok but not outstanding. I had the Salmone - poached eggs with salmon. The bread was good, serves were generous, the avo mash was very fresh (it even had tiny bits of skin to prove it) and the eggs were beautifully runny just the way I like them. We ate and ran, hoping the staff have...

We at SOL - School of Languages have had the pleasure of collaborating with Locale Newstead on many fantastic events, such as Carnevale al Locale, Sicilian wine tasting, cooking classes, Buongiorno Italian Breakfast, and Granita Day. Every event has been an incredible success, something truly appreciated by our students!

The professionalism of Laura, Mario, and their amazing staff is always exceptional, creating a truly warm and welcoming atmosphere. For us, introducing our students to the cultural aspect that a language carries is fundamental, and with Locale, it really feels like going to Italy without needing a plane ticket!

And of course, Mario's creations in the kitchen—from pasta to pastry—are simply incredible! Now, with a Sicilian breakfast and lunch menu available, we can enjoy even more of that authentic gusto siciliano right here in Brisbane.

Grazie di cuore for bringing Italy—and especially Sicily—so close to our community of Italian culture and language lovers. We look forward to many more cultural...

Visiting Locale has slowly become a weekly tradition on my day off work. If you want somewhere that gives an explosive feel to the taste buds with a traditional Italian family feel then this is the place to go. I can’t recommend it enough, the food is perfection and if you want to be in Sicily without actually being there then I highly recommend here especially their granita with panna and brioche. Every mouthful takes me back to sitting in my parents hometown in Sicily, with memories rushing back like it was yesterday. Seriously you need to try this place - oh and did I mention they also do catering. Personally I would give Mario, Laura and the...
