In short, terrible service. They lied to us about the payment method. If you still want to eat here for some reason, remember, they let some customers pay by card, even if they tell you that you have to pay by cash.
Here is what happened. The old lady at the cashier told us that we had to pay by cash. But we didn't have enough cash at the time and my partner had to go out and find an ATM. When she came back, the old lady let us pay before the other customer who was holding her credit card and already waiting. After we paid and were about to leave, we saw the old lady let the customer use her credit card. When we went back and asked her why she didn't let us use our credit card, she said that we told her that we wanted to pay by cash. How could she tell us such an obvious lie? And after we protested, she changed her story and started saying that it was because she had already pressed "cash" button when we asked. What is wrong with this lady?
I just learned that this was not an isolated incident. Look at other 1 star reviews. Some other people had exactly the same experience as us. Obviously this has been their common practice for a long time, and they have been keeping deceiving and...
Read moreUsed to be a regular here before the pandemic. Feels like I haven't had my lunch here in ages. One day last week, I saw their lady boss chopping BBQ ducks when I was walking by on Wickham St. We said hello through the window just like we did years ago. I have to say I was a little bit emotional at the moment. From remote work to major life developments, the pandemic era left its mark everywhere. But no matter what, there are still some people who insist on doing their own jobs.
So I was back on this Sunday arvo and had my lunch here. I ordered BBQ duck and rice, added a soy marinated egg. Just like all other restaurants, their prices have increased slightly. However, their ducks are still of good quality. My favourite duck in the town.
They used to offer free soup to everyone of their customers for many years. I have no idea when they cancelled. I know there are many customers who never try free soup of restaurants. But I do really enjoy to have a hot soup while I’m having a BBQ duck. I can understand why they cancelled it, but still feel a little bit sad.
Anyway, I give 5 stars to them even though I still miss their free...
Read moreBrilliant - really good balance of BBQ meats and streamed noodle. Yep - not the typical char siu n rice here - although you can get that too but i find the rice a bit dry. I actually prefer the noodles here and actually miss this combo when travelling. Price is very reasonable, cheap even and the size very generous. The meat is flavoursome. Occasionally you get a gristle bit, but hey its crunchy. No1 choice is the char siu, then the roast pork, then chicken then duck, but the duck is a fav of my partner. They have other dishes too but i normally stick to the first here. Free hot (but very weak tea), hot or cold water towards the back right corner. Decor is 'low class cafe', but hey 'food first' then ... what decor???! i don't care! The lady boss is a real character with entertaining antics :-) I am a repeat customer for the bbq pork n steamed noodle. p.s. have tried the brisket on rice and can confirm it seems to be reheated and cold in parts. Avoid that one. They really should heat it properly or people will get sick and it is an easy...
