Do not think 'fun! Live jazz and dancing' think acid reflux, rude people, rock music and being totally, blatantly, ripped off. We had popped and had a whiskey before tonight, but very brief. Our first alarm bell should have been that they didn't seem to know of their which whiskey selection was available even though toting it as a wide range when we spoke to them. Went in tonight. The band was playing a rock song (they said italian jazz to us). Ordered a kentucky old fashioned and their equivalent of a lemoncello spritz (it was crowded so I wanted something that wouldn't get knocked). Old fashioned was made with 60 ml spirit a dash of soda (??) and a syrup with a wedge of fresh orange in it and a giant cube of ice dropped in causing a bunch of it to spash out. Glass was sticky. The spritz was definitely a moment. Wow. They got a shaker and put in a huge amount of bottled lemon juice in it. The other bartender said 'too much!'. I right they would restart, what a fool am I. I never saw a nip pourer or lemoncello bottle so don't think any of that actually went in. They poured in a bunch of soda water then shook the drink with ice (would want it to be effervescent) and then poured it into a giant martini 'vase' type glass. As it was not strained so was too much for the glass so they tried to pour back into the shaker and with a bunch cascading on the counter while doing so. They then gave up, strained the stuff they got into the can into the glass. Pulled out the sparkling wine, shrugged as there was no space for it. Put in two sliced lemon wedges and then stabbed a straw through a slice of lime and dumped this in too. Such a interesting garnish. All this while we watched and they knew we were watching....They then handed it to me and gave me a shot glass of the remaining concoction. My flat soda and bottled lemon juice cost $23. At least the old fashioned contained alcohol. I tried to drink mine but my stomach turned and my mouth is still burning. I think their lemon juice is off. I just put it down and walked out with my partner. Thank god...
Read moreGreat entertainment, the decor and ambience in this venue are amazing. Definitely takes you to that jazz bar vibes. Food and service are top notch and it baffles me why Google allow people to leave negative reviews without any accountability for their actions.
Our experience has been great in this venue and to allow some reviewer to leave a negative review on the basis that they had to pay for a product(Voss water) that was consumed without any compromise on quality, mind you is completely irresponsible on Google's part as it obviously leads to potential loss of revenue for this venue.
Luckily the patrons who regularly visit this venue know the standards they uphold but new customers will be clearly influenced by unwarranted negative reviews which may drive them to choose other venues.
Shame on you Amber for being completely inconsiderate and unfair in your review as you expect businesses to serve you top notch service when you are ordering water and enjoying all the live entertainment and services the venue has to offer. I hope the venue sues you for loss of revenue!
And no, I'm not affiliated to the venue in anyway, I'm just sick of overly entitled people thinking they can bag a venue and destroy their reputation because they didn't give into their unreasonable demands. It's a well known fact that hospitality businesses have suffered immense losses with the covid restrictions. Be mindful when you leave reviews that can destroy an honest business doing their best to stay afloat. You can check my other reviews to see if I'm a genuine reviewer or not.
Thank you for reaching thus far if you've made it. rant over
Good job Alan and Chattanooga team, your regulars will always...
Read moreThe Chattanooga jazz bar is a hidden gem in Fortitude Valley on a corner that you might just drive past. But if you did, you might be missing out on an experience you will never forget!
When I visit from Sydney I always come here with my family. The music is fantastic- sometimes a pot luck jam or a well oiled band. If you like Blues and Jazz, this is a place not to be missed.
Most recently we were here for my father’s 70th birthday party. Alan and Chelsea hosted beautifully. They are super lovely, big personalities and great vibes. All dietary requirements in the party were catered for including the coeliacs, vegetarians and vegans.
When I’ve been there, there always seems to be other birthday parties going on, so people know that it’s a place to make a memorable night.
There is always dancing and lots of laughter on many nights of the week. And the place seems to attract a curious, eccentric and fun crowd, like its hosts.
Thank you Alan and Chelsea for a great night for my Dad’s birthday and creating this awesome space for people to have fun and enjoy music.
Some noteworthy points- Be sure to book ahead. It gets booked on a busy night.
Re. Services. The toilets are not in the bar itself, it’s down the corridor, so be aware if you have to be near a toilet for any reason, it’s a bit of a pain. There is a gender neutral/ disabled toilet, however!
Ensure you notify ahead of your specific dietary requirements, however, as there are not that many vegan choices on the actual menu.
