Overview We enjoyed a pleasant evening sitting outdoors at the Pig & Whistle on a warm, balmy Monday spring evening. The venue is spacious, featuring both indoor and outdoor seating. Although we had made a reservation, it was unnecessary as there were plenty of tables available.
Food & Drink My wife and I dined to celebrate my birthday. We ordered a pint of Balter XPA ale, which was on special for a reasonable $12, alongside a glass of Prosecco priced at $12—less reasonable considering that just a year or two ago, such a glass would have cost no more than $7. For our meals, we chose the mushroom arancini balls ($19), slow-cooked beef ($34), and chicken salad ($26). The food was decent, with generous portion sizes. The mushroom arancini balls were soft with a crispy coating, making for an excellent starter. My beef was melt-in-your-mouth tender, served with a chunky mushroom, creamy mash, and drenched in red wine sauce. The chicken salad was fresh and flavorful, complemented by a tangy mint yogurt sauce.
Service The service was polite, fast, and efficient. After placing our order at the bar, it took less than 15 minutes for the meals to arrive. However, all dishes were served together, which detracted from our enjoyment of the entrée.
Ambience The ambience is laid-back and casual—ideal for spring or summer dining. However, it might feel a bit chilly in winter if dining outdoors.
Cost We utilised an Entertainment Club discount offering 25% off food and drink (up to a maximum of only $25). Our total bill for two drinks, an entrée, and two main meals came to $104, including an annoying “card surcharge.” After applying the discount, our final amount was a more manageable $79.
Toilets While there are no toilets within the restaurant itself, public toilets are conveniently located just behind it. I’m not particularly fond of pub toilets, especially at night; however, these ones had just been cleaned, and were fresh and well-stocked.
Location Pig & Whistle is conveniently situated at King George Square, close to the nearby bus station.
Summary Overall, our experience at Pig & Whistle was enjoyable, due to fast service, fresh and tasty food served in generous portions and a relaxed atmosphere. However, with rising prices across Australia making dining out increasingly expensive, I will wait for another discount offer,...

We went to Pig & Whistle for a colleagues last day - there were approximately 19 of us under the booking. We all order at the same time - drinks and meals, drinks came out promptly……but how it all went downhill from that moment.
Part of the groups meals came to the table, then nothing….rather than finish bringing out our orders - the pub decided to service a Christmas party that had arrived after us and 45 minutes later we were still waiting on our remaining meals.
Multiple colleagues could not stay any longer and had to leave to go back to work, they were unwillingly given refunds for their meals and no apology for the hour long wait and part fulfilment of the groups order. I asked 3 of the waiting staff if they could let me know the status of my order and when it would be coming out but nobody ever returned with an update.
I decided to wait a little longer as I was hungry and didn’t want to have to go to another venue to order. Once it had been over 75 minutes, I went to the bar to request a refund. The manager was truly awful to deal with. I was polite and said I could no longer wait and would like a refund and he immediately started shouting at me. He told me that he could not refund me but he could offer me a drink (not a good alternative when the issue was needing to eat). He then changed approach and made out that my colleagues had already cancelled my order and taken my refund - a ludicrous claim but one that I checked whilst at the bar and confirmed was totally made up! I was then subjected to ~5+ minutes of shouting, accusations and lies from the Manager before he eventually gave me a refund.
I have absolutely no idea why this man is in charge and highly recommend that the company do something about it. No apology for the delays or the service, just aggressive, threatening behaviour. I will certainly never be going to this...

Let me tell you a story, it was a Tuesday afternoon and two work colleagues who progressed to friends have planned to meet for an overdue post Christmas catch up. Their schedules aligned, so food and drinks in the Brisbane CBD was arranged. Low and behold they finish their long and tedious day filled with back to back meetings and meet in the lobby of their centrally located work building. In a 1km radius this bustling city should be filled to the brim with great options for tantalising their tastebuds and quenching the thirst they are now becoming increasingly conscious of. Well as they would find out tourism industries are not the only victims of COVID. The CBD used to be a hive of excitement for post work drinks, catch ups and dinners, and now they walked past empty shops and restaurants, dreaming of a time past. Hark!! what is that they see? A glimmer of hope as it appears a once popular location in the centre of King George Square appears not only open, but have the capacity to accommodate the weary travellers. “Welcome to The Pig and Whistle” is what they mumbled to themselves as they checked in on the app and sanitized their hands diligently. They grabbed their drinks and found a prominent position facing the picturesque view of city hall, dumping all of their bags and the weight of the world from the day. “Cheers” they clinked glasses and spent the rest of the evening catching up as though no time had passed. THE END………… Oh wait yeah they ate food too, it was ok, one of them had nachos and the...
