I was excited to try this new âhotâ place out on James st and what an underwhelming experience in terms of food and service.
First of all, when my food came out I received 2 poached eggs. The first was good and then I cut open the second one and I get a hard boiled egg. I was too full and thought I would let the waiter know when she came out to take our dishes back. When I let her know, her first response was âThatâs the way itâs supposed to be.â Even though it clearly said poached egg on the menu. It was her whole attitude about it that put me off. She didn't event put in the effort to look at my dish as I was pointing it out. Then she has the audacity to tell me saying Oh, why didnât I tell her earlier. No apology just a tough luck type of expression and walks away with our dishes.
Second of all, where our group sat was it direct sunlight to the point I couldnât open my eyes. When we asked if we could move (and yes there were empty tables available) they blatantly said No without even the effort of trying to look or any explanation that wasnât possible. The more ignorant thing is that they allowed other guests to move when they asked. Absolutely rude.
Everything is âsold outâ. Running out of hash browns at 11am on Sunday⌠really..? Not good enough.
Service during the whole time was underwhelming. They seem friendly with the high pitched voice but when you actually receive food and coffee everything is plonked down in the table and the staff are too busy to run away. No one actually cares or takes the time to listen what the customer is requesting.
If you want to run a business in a street like James st and charge the price like you do, its about giving customers the experience, service and good hospitality. This place doesnât care about their customers. They only care about instragram influencers that would give them a 5...

1- We had booked a table for 4. Our friends got there before us. My partner and I waited for several minutes to be seated by the wait staff/host/owner. They just ignored us. Fortunately I decided to just walk in and see if our friends had arrived or not. I saw our friends and motioned to my partner to follow me. Only then did the owner acknowledge us and asked us if we had a reservation.
2- The amount of noise inside is deafening. You cannot have a decent conversation because noise just reverberates and itâs crazy. This was brought to the attention of the owner who said they were looking at noise cancellation options.
3- The waitresses were rude. They were impatient and impolite. We understand that it was a busy morning but come on. I do not have anything good to say about the service. They would just drop the plates on the table and walk away.
4- The food was different but it was not perfect. Portion size was small. I ordered sides as well but still felt hungry. Sausages were heated up.
5- We had a birthday cake which we had given the staff. They had left it outside. Thanks for being the only establishment I have ever been to anywhere in the world who treats a birthday cake with contempt.
6- The owner was yelling at one of the staff members. Mate, you are not made for hospitality. Hospitality requires discipline, genuine care for providing quality service and much more. Do yourself a favour, either get a partner who knows the industry and learn from them by shadowing them (highly doubt this will solve your management style) or just become a silent partner and hand the reigns to someone who knows what they are doing.
7- $42 per person for horrible service, an unpleasant and extremely loud and noisy setting and average food is a bit too much.
I will not be recommending The...
Read moreWe had a chat with Brendan from the Cafe at the Goodwill Bridge in the morning and he gave us lots of inspiration and curiosity to try The Green for lunch. And so we made a booking for 12.30.
The interior design is very much an oasis of curated cacti and plants, which not only make an impressive display yet are for sale as well. We were greeted by the very friendly staff and seated indoors but there are tables outdoors as well.
The wine list was very interesting with wines that we never had before and the prices were very reasonable. We ordered a bottle of white from the Yarra Valley and were assured that if the wine was to sweet or not to our liking we could change our order. How good a service was that. We loved our selection by the way. It was lovely to sip on a glass and browse the menu.
We are pescatarians and we are not used to have still so many choices. When approaching the maitre D' at the entrance you can spot a huge charcoal tray come grill behind the counter. A great sight but an even better smell! Hence, we just had to have the baba ghanoush. We love a good baba and this one belongs in "the archives". Yes, definitely a dish to remember.
After chatting with the waitress, we decided to also have the grilled prawns marinated with harissa, the pumpkin salad and falafel with green hummus. Normally, we don't order falafel because they compare quite ordinary with other culinary delights. Our intuition said "TRY!". And so we did. Outcome: some of the best falafel ever!
Although we spent only just under 2 hours at The Green, we felt like we had a mini-break and stayed in that wonderful laid-back, care free holiday frame of mind for the rest of the...
