THIS PLACE.
I believe it’s Afghan food (I’m sorry if I’m wrong!) and tbh I don’t know a lot about central asia cuisine so had fun ordering everything, it was unbelievably good and surpassed my already high expectations.
First off, order the MANTUS. OOOFT it’s good. Second, get a dip and it comes w free bread yay they were so generous with it and it came out piping hot and fresh. Then, we got some stew thing (red bowl in the picture) that was SOOOOOOOOO YUM I highly recommend this dish! We got a yoghurt dip and a lil bowl of pickles on the side and they paired so well with all the food. Lamb cutlets was ok, flavouring was good but unfortunately I could still taste the ‘butcher’ through the meat and I didn’t like that very much, maybe needs to be marinated for longer. Turkish coffees were yummy. Saffron ice cream was SO GOOD I wish we got one each.
Not usually such a pig but we were fangin’ for a good meal and this TRULY surpassed our expectations. As you can see in the last pic, we finished everything and cleaned house on EVERY dish (ok ok we did leave some rice haha). We were joking at the start that we might need to do takeaway but nah g it was so easy to finish everything because of how good the food was.
We saw that they had the carpeted space for larger groups to do platters and I think it’d be so fun to bring friends and family to experience a meal like that together. Next time I will bring back my family for sure! Thank you for such a delightful dining experience and it is so nice to have such a delicious Afghan food joint in the area now- I absolutely can’t wait to come back and try everything else on the menu.
Btw the service was so friendly and the waiter had a lot of pride in their food and gave us great recommendations, thanks for recommending the dip...
Read moreWe had the pleasure of attending the reopening of our favourite restaurant, Toranj, under the new management. Unfortunately, we noticed some changes that didn’t quite meet our expectations.
Toranj has always been a very special place for us—not only was the food exceptional, but we also appreciated that the meats were not marinated with pepper. The current chef seems to use pepper in the marinade, and even my husband, who usually has no issue with spicy food, found it a bit strong.
I have an intolerance to pepper, so before making our booking, I ensured to confirm that the meats would still be prepared without it—especially black pepper. I was assured there would be plenty of suitable options. Unfortunately, every meat dish I tried had pepper in the marinade and was surrounded by whole peppers on the serving platters. Additionally, the meat was a bit dry, which was unexpected.
Another aspect we noticed was the music and the overall ambiance. In the past, the music used to be calm and at a low volume, which allowed us to enjoy a peaceful meal and have a conversation without any issues. This time, however, the music was very loud and energetic, which made the experience less relaxing. The space also felt a bit cramped and lacked the structure needed for a buffet. I must admit that the combination of the music and the layout left me feeling a bit overwhelmed.
We have a great fondness for Toranj—it has always been our go-to restaurant, where we’ve celebrated all our special occasions and frequently recommended it to friends and acquaintances.
While the new Toranj didn’t quite meet our expectations, we genuinely wish the new owners much success and hope they continue to make it a beloved spot for...
Read moreI recently had the opportunity to dine at an Iranian restaurant and while the experience was overall enjoyable, there were areas that could improve.
Let's start with the positives. The ambiance of the restaurant was warm and inviting, reflecting the cultural richness of Iran. The staff members were friendly and attentive, creating a welcoming atmosphere from the moment I stepped inside. The menu boasted a diverse range of traditional Iranian dishes, offering a glimpse into the country's culinary heritage.
However, one area that could benefit from improvement is the wait time. On the day of my visit, the restaurant seemed to be quite busy, and this resulted in longer-than-expected waiting periods. It would be beneficial if the management could find ways to streamline their service and reduce these delays, ensuring a smoother dining experience for patrons. I know a lot of other people have been complaining about this. I'm hopefully for the future of the restaurant and I really hope they can fix this issue.
In terms of the flavors of the meals, while most dishes were satisfying, there were a few that didn't quite live up to expectations. For example, the kebab lacked the authentic flavors of Iranian cuisine. Also some of the lamb dishes did but taste right. It would be great if the kitchen could pay closer attention to the traditional seasoning and marination techniques to enhance the taste profile of...
