READ BEFORE YOU COME HERE
This restaurant was my favorite two years ago, and everything was excellent. However, dinner tonight was downright disrespectful and subpar.
Service (why I gave it 1 star) When I went to order, I asked a male server about substituting beef for chicken as a choice of meat for “Bun Bo Hue.” Yes, I know traditionally “Bun Bo Hue” is beef, but I simply asked if switching was possible since my partner has a beef intolerance.
To which the male server turned to a female server and asked her if switching was possible. She grunted in disgust and made a remark in Vietnamese to her coworker, calling me a “biến thái,” which pretty much translates to “pervert” in English. LIKE What did I do to warrant such a disrespectful response? I was simply asking if switching a source of protein was possible.
Whilst, the male server did give her a nudge because he knew was Vietnamese. Like If I didn’t understand the language so what? Did is she just cursed at me because she assumed that I didn’t understand what she was saying JUST BECAUSE SHE CAN???????I can’t even imagine the amount of disrespect that lady has gotten away with from just cursing someone else out in a language that they don’t understand.
I should’ve walked away then and there, but I gave the restaurant the benefit of the doubt. Maybe the servers were just having a bad day, so I ordered anyway despite the remark since they used to be my favorite. (I was wrong.)
Food (why I gave it 2 stars) I ended up getting my partner “Pho Ga (chicken Pho)” and I ordered “Com Suon (pork brisket rice)” with two fresh pork and prawn spring rolls.
Well, the portion for the chicken Pho was disappointing, but the taste was normal; I wouldn’t say too much about it. However, the pork brisket was… raw. Just look at the photo below.
I left half of the fresh spring rolls uneaten. I would not recommend them based on my personal opinion.
Overall, I would not go here again after tonight. While this may just be my opinion, when a customer comes into the restaurant and treats YOU with respect and asks a simple question, they deserve the same respect in return—not to be cursed at.
Very disappointing service, and in my opinion, go here at your own risk.
(The male server was good though, he did offer to replace the rice dish but I lost my appetite at that...
Read moreHonestly the worst bánh mì I’ve ever had. The moment I opened the bag the food actually stank — not in a fragrant, fresh way, but like old meat and stale bread. Put me off straight away.
The roll itself? Hard as a rock. Nearly cracked a tooth trying to bite into it. A proper bánh mì should be light and crisp on the outside, soft and airy inside. This was dry, dense, and felt like it’d been sitting out all day.
The filling was even worse. The “meat” tasted sour, like it was turning. The pate had no richness, just a weird smell that made it inedible. Fresh herbs? Forget it. The coriander was wilted, the cucumber was soggy, and there was barely any pickled carrot or daikon. Those are supposed to give the whole sandwich brightness and crunch — without them, it was just a stale bread roll stuffed with limp veg and dodgy meat.
Even the chilli was missing. Bánh mì without a bit of kick is just sad. Instead, they drowned it in some sweet, gloopy sauce that made everything worse.
This isn’t just a bad bánh mì — it’s disrespectful to the dish. Everything that makes it good — fresh bread, balance of flavours, crunchy pickles, proper pate, fragrant herbs — was completely missing.
The food stinks, literally. 1 star only because Google won’t let...
Read moreVietnam Corner QUT blew my socks off. Such a quality family run restaurant serving well priced food. I gew up in Brisbane, went to school here. My family regularly got Asian takeout, so I know my stuff. Now I rarely write reviews, but the food and vibe of the family running the place was just so enjoyable I had to write something. Personal fav is the beef fried rice, which was about $20 for a big portion with lots of meat. highly...
