Toowoomba Pasta, sensational!
I had an early lunch at Cafe 928 today, and it was a wonderful experience.
I sat myself down at a table inside (they have seating inside and outside) and was given iced water without having to ask for it - a nice touch. There's a QR code on each table through which you view the menu and place your order.
The cafe has a very extensive and EXCITING menu, with a large selection of pizzas, pastas, and rice-based dishes, with combinations of flavours (Korean-Italian fusion) that you would not find anywhere else.
I was tempted to try Pork Belly Kimchi Pasta, but decided on Toowoomba Pasta instead. This consisted of spaghetti in a mildly-spicy creamy sauce with mushroom, onion, and garlic. You can choose the prawn (my choice) or the chicken version.
My order arrived after a short wait, and it was a generous-sized serving all-around - noodles, creamy sauce, and prawns. The flavours of the dish went together very well; you could taste the garlic, and it was a bit spicy, but not overpowering, the prawns were juicy and tender, and the pasta was al-dente. Perfect dish, impossible to fault.
The service provided (welcoming and efficient) was on par with the excellent food, which will certainly make me want to come back.
I highly recommend Cafe 928 for its pleasant ambience, UNIQUE menu, high-quality cuisine, and friendly...

We ordered: donkatsu combo, $27 - two pieces of pork cutlet (sauce & sweet potato mash), beef patty, sunny side up egg, kransky sausage, salad with dressing, steamed rice Korean chips, $13 - shoestring chips loaded with bulgogi & kimchi, sour cream, sweet chilli sauce, mayo
The combo platter is from their specials menu and is meant to be a shared meal - portion wise that plus the side of chips was just right for 2 adults and 1 child. The pork cutlets weren't the juiciest I've had but as an overall package the combo is quite worthwhile as the food is quite flavoursome and there's a different taste to sample with each element.
Similarly with the Korean chips and the different bits of savoury, sweet, sour, and spice going on. Real party in your mouth and I would happily order either (or both) dish again.
The venue seemed to be well patronised by Korean clientele (always a good sign in my books) and next time I might try to leave some stomach space for one of...

Flavours were fresh, thin crisp.
Pastas were amazing, Toowoomba pasta for real is a real innovation and trend. Creamy and full of umami.
Tonkotsu plate to share is so worthwhile, amazing crispiness yet still retaining the flavour of the pork, and fresh oil to not overwhelm the whole mouthful of experience.
Last but not least, the bingsoo is probably the best you could find in the Gold Coast, coming from Sydney where there’s heaps of Korean restaurants and cafes, cafe 928 honestly has some of the best bingsoo. Texture and consistency of the shaved ice with each grain filled with the flavour of matcha (not overly sweet either). Very decently priced food items.
Such a cosy place too, it can get crowded so do...
