The moment you step in, you're greeted with a vibrant and inviting atmosphere, enhanced by the friendly staff who are always eager to help you choose from their extensive range of flavours.
The star of the show is undoubtedly the gelato itself. Shiro Gelato Shack serves up creamy gelato with a delightful array of flavours, from classic options like Hokkaido Milk and Black Sesame to more adventurous ones like Hojicha Oreo and Miso Caramel. Each scoop is rich, flavourful, and well-balanced, making it hard to stop at just one. The ingredients are clearly of high quality, with a distinct freshness that sets their gelato apart from others in the area.
Their portion sizes are generous, and they offer various serving options, including cones and cups making it perfect for a quick treat or a dessert to savour at home. The gelato shack is well-positioned along the coast, making it an ideal stop for a cool treat after a day at the beach.
Though seating can be limited during peak hours, Shiro Gelato Shack is more of a grab-and-go spot, which adds to its casual charm. If you’re in the Gold Coast and craving a sweet, creamy indulgence, Shiro Gelato Shack is definitely worth a visit.

Read moreShiro’s has such a lovely beautiful vibe to it, finding this place was a real delight. The staff were all super friendly and welcoming, from taking the order and checking the order before processing, to explaining the various things on the menu.
We got a matcha daifuku and 3 onigiri to share (miso pork, tori tama and a classic tuna&mayo).
The matcha daifuku was soft and fluffy and gummy and smooth, and the matcha flavour was exactly what I’d expect for a green tea flavoured thing, it was beautiful.
The onigiri - the tori tama packed a flavourful punch and the miso pork was a subtle but nice taste. I’m a sucker for the tuna mayo though, it’s a classic flavour and having this again reminded me of my trip to Japan.
The cost was probably a bit spenny but what do you expect, we’re in a cost of living crisis. For all the reviews complaining about the pricing, remember that this place is not just the food but it’s people, and they need to cover the costs of not just the food they create but of their employees too. I can’t afford to eat there every day but I’m happy to pay for their bloody great onigiri and gelato.
I’ll definitely be back many times in the future to try all the remaining gelato flavours and combinations, and all the onigiri flavours. Thank...
Read moreI had to work hard to find this place, but the reward in the end was worth it 👌
The Google Maps location pin for Shiro was in the wrong place, taking me to the back of the block rather than the front. Even when I got to the right street I kept missing the shopfront because I was looking for the name, only realising later that the shop sign is only a logo with no words.
Anyways I eventually found it and we decided on a hojicha Oreo gelato ($7) with the daifuku (mochi wrap) option (+$1). This was skilfully made into a spherical shape that was just the right size to fit in the cup.
Wifey thought the hojicha flavour was one of the best she's had, and we enjoyed the pairing with the mochi to give it a different texture and add some playfulness.
We stayed a while at one of the few tables available to enjoy our dessert and soak up some of the Japanese vibes from the shop. Whilst I can now get similar items closer to home in Brisbane I feel it's still worth visiting the OG mochi gelato (for south east Queensland) if you get the chance. I'll be back the next time I'm in the Southport area to try their onigiri and probably more gelato.
NB. I've since updated the Google Maps listing so you should be able to find it more...
