Went as a solo diner as a little reward to myself for finishing the Gold Coast Marathon. Thankfully, I was still able to order the Kōst experience. Pictured is the Chef's Selection of Snacks - I won't go into too much detail as I can't remember exactly what each dish here is; but the highlight here was (oddly enough) the tart topped with green peas in the middle. Next was the Yellowfin Tuna, Steak Tartare and the Bug Roll (all three pictured). Tuna was absolutely superb; loved the pickled walnut garnish. Steak Tartare was also delicious, interesting idea to use the chips as something of a dipping tool - provided a nice crunchy contrast to the softness of the tartare. I wasn't too crazy about the Bug Roll, but perhaps I can chalk that up to the other two dishes being totally excellent. Next were the mains, being the Cabbage, Fries and the Chicken. Oddly enough, the Cabbage was the highlight here. Loved the green garnish and pistachios. Chicken was good, but I did prefer the seafood I had previously. Fries were solid, not spectacular. Finally, the dessert was amazing: it was a little sphere of solid chocolate filled with mousse or ice cream or something. Delicious, the thing melted in my mouth.
Service was great. Everyone was very friendly and happy to engage me in conversation around how I was enjoying my meal (given I was a solo diner). All the food came out quite quickly (but not too quickly!). They were very helpful in explaining the components of the dishes, especially the less conventional aspects (e.g. walnut garnish).
Note, I spent $155 on the Kōst Experience, the remaining ~$100 was spent on drinks. I walked away from the dinner feeling full and satisfied (not something I can say about every up-market restaurant). Although expensive, the Experience is definitely worth the money. Will come back again next time...
Read moreKost lives up to its name! It Costs you - far more than any of the other far better restaurants in Broadbeach, Surfers or Main Beach where the food is far better presented, the menus are more exciting, and the food tastes better overall. And their food is fairly priced - unlike Kost’s overpriced menu. A small slice of bread costs $5, the oysters were either natural or you could dip them into champagne at high cost – Wow! There was no attempt to offer some really exciting options like other restaurants do. The cocktails were overpriced for what little you get. The menu was limited. My wife and I ordered half a coral trout which we were told was for two, but it was really only enough for one - and we are not big eaters. It cost an exorbitant $200!! We never complain about price because we almost always get great value for money, but not at Kost. All of us agreed. Everyone at our table thought most of the dishes were nothing special and way over the mark for what they got. We spent almost $230 per person. The highest spend option on the website is only $180 per head. We didn’t order a lot of wine or food. We checked the addition was right. It was high because the prices were so unreasonably high. Bad word of mouth his will cost the owner a lot of business. We mix with a lot of people, and we will be telling them to stay away from this rip-off joint. It is simply implausible that there would be so many reviewers that give it a 5 rating. It makes one wonder how this could be when there is nothing special about it other than the high prices. The décor is low key but pleasant. The staff service was ordinary. We had to ask twice for some things. If it’s so good, how come it was less than half full? Don’t waste your time or money at ‘Kostly’ when there are so many other excellent...
Read moreKost Seafood Bar and Grill offers a vibrant dining experience with a prime location and a menu designed for sharing—exactly the kind of dining we love. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by the bustling atmosphere of the restaurant. While it’s a bit on the louder side, we were fortunate enough to be seated outside in the cozy pavilion area, which was much more intimate and comfortable.
Our waitress, Isabelle, was the standout of the evening. She was not only friendly but also extremely knowledgeable about the menu, offering excellent recommendations that really elevated our meals and experience. We appreciated the sharing-style dishes, as the menu encourages a variety of flavors to explore, and we were able to sample a bit of everything.
The food itself was a true highlight. The beef tartare was fresh and rich, while the octopus was tender and perfectly grilled—definitely the standout dishes of the evening. The pacing of the meal was also well-timed, with drinks and food spaced apart just enough to keep the evening relaxed without feeling rushed.
However, not everything was flawless. A few items from our order were missed, and unfortunately, our dessert never arrived. By the time we realized we’d been forgotten, the outdoor pavilion was nearly empty, and it seemed as though we were the last guests to be looked after. We had been hoping to enjoy some dessert and drinks after our meal, but without a server to check in on us, we decided to call it a night.
Despite these setbacks, our overall experience at Kost was positive. The food was excellent, the service from Isabelle was fantastic. With a bit more attention to detail at the end of the night, Kost could easily earn that extra star. We’ll likely return, hoping for a smoother...
