I ordered the Surf n Turf, a half dozen oysters, and a glass of chardonnay. The oysters were fresh, but the sauces on top were honestly just okay. I ordered half with tomato and half with onion vinegar sauce, but the sauces didn’t really add much. The oysters themselves were just fresh though.

As for the Surf n Turf, the scallops were deep fried but tasted terrible. Usually, anything deep fried food tastes good, but these scallops just felt like chewing on fried rubber. There were only three pieces, so I ate them anyway. The prawns were firm and decent enough.

I ordered my steak medium rare, but it came out almost well done. The butter looked tasty, so I tried to eat it, but I completely lost my appetite and couldn’t finish it at all! I left half of it on the plate.

The waitress asked me what was wrong, so I asked her what I had ordered my steak as, and she confirmed it was medium rare. I told her this steak was absolutely not medium rare, and she asked if I wanted her to replace it. I hesitated and said, “Hmm, no,” and she said she would check what she could do. A bit later, she came back and asked again what I wanted. I thought about it, but honestly, since the food wasn’t good in the first place, I didn’t think anything else would taste any better. So I just asked her to clear the dish, and she did, but she never came back to my table after that, nor did she bring the bill.

When I stood up to leave and went to the counter, Emma told me that since I’d eaten all the seafood and half the steak, they would take $20 off my bill. That just made me feel worse. There wasn’t even a single word of apology.. Emma only pointed out how much I had eaten. It made me feel like this must be something that happens quite often here, and I was just another unhappy customer to them.

I really didn’t want to waste food and tried to eat it.. Unfortunately, it was just awful. The food was rubbish, and so was...

All in all a very enjoyable mean at Blue Eye. The food was a little expensive ($32) for what was effectively a Fisherman's basket for one, but it was made with care and was very tatsy. What was on the plate was pretty well as good as it gets for fried Fish and Chips, crispy batter with absolutely no soggy or stodgy bits and the fish inside was just cooked through and full of flavour and moisture, sweet potato fries (normal potato available as well) cooked well, just cooked through crumbed scallops and a nice little salad. There was also a tasty little Prawn dim sim that had it's own little dipping sauce, i thought it was a little odd at first given the rest of the dish but the prawn shone through and was a nice distraction.

Service was attentive and friendly, my Standard G&T came out with a full measure of gin, good quality tonic and both lemon and lime in a nice glass (that drink set the tone for the rest of the meal, good quality, good size, prepared and served with care) meals came out quickly and were served hot. The only downside was the noise, we unfortunately had two big tables come into the restaurant half way through our meals and two particular ladies made more noise than the other 18 or so sat around them. Not the restaurants fault but it did highlight that there are lots of hard surfaces in the place and the noise just bounced around, perhaps some more soft furnishings would help.

As an aside, we had our two year old daughter with us and as soon as we sat down a kids menu & crayons were provided, the menu had a page behind it to colour in. A welcome and unexpected touch.

9.5/10 for the food 7/10 for the pricing 8/10 for service...

Quality food but our waitress was rude.

Pros: The food was very good. We really liked the oysters as they were very fresh. We ordered two main courses as well. The seafood linguine was yummy and I was happy with the portion.

Cons: One of the waitresses (a horizontally challenged Asian lady with glasses) was not attentive to us and quite rude. I had to raise my hand several times to bring attention. But she showed attentions to other customers such as refilling still water for them and chatting with them. Our bottle of still water had been empty for quite a while but no one came over and refilled it for us. So I got another waitress (who was very nice) to refill it for me. After a while, the rude Asian waitress finally came to us but she told us bluntly,"next time, just ask me to serve you instead of asking other waitresses because each of us serve customers of different sections,ok?". I was shocked by her words cos she had never thought that it was her fault for not being attentive to us. Instead, she kind of put the blame on me. I replied to her, "ok". Then she walked away but still she kept on being not attentive to us. The food finally took an hour to arrive but this rude Asian waitress had never apologised to us and never asked us whether or not we were happy...

A Hidden Gem in Tasmania ★★★★★ During our trip to Tasmania, we were eager to experience the region's renowned seafood, and Blue Eye Seafood certainly delivered an exceptional dining experience. Though the service started a bit slow, the staff quickly turned things around and provided outstanding attention by the end of our meal. The seafood pasta was nothing short of extraordinary - truly the best I've ever tasted. What impressed me most was how the seafood took center stage rather than the pasta itself. They were incredibly generous with the seafood portions, making each bite a delight. My husband's dish was equally delicious. The meal was so satisfying and fulfilling that we found ourselves pleasantly drowsy afterward - a testament to both the quality and quantity of the food. The chef's expertise is evident in every dish, showcasing the premium ingredients used throughout the menu. I absolutely loved this place and highly recommend it to anyone seeking an authentic Tasmanian seafood experience!

Very disappointed in this place, they charge top dollar and it did not live up to expectations. Booking, arrival and greeting was fine. Upon ordering drinks i asked what beer they had on tap, there were two types, the waitress could not explain to me which they were, ok, she was pilot and I guess maybe learning. I asked if she could find out which she d and I order a beer on tap, she came back and with a can of the beer...I said I wanted beer from tap, she said ohh, the beer on tap is not working! That would have been useful information in the beginning!! Meals were very small, ridiculously small for the price, fish was like a fish finger size from a packet!! Let me be clear this was no packet fish, it was very nice and cooked perfectly, the size was ridiculously small for the price! I read an article in the Australian recently about post covid restaurants not delivering value for money, this in my view is one of the!

As an Australian mainlain visitor I visited this restaurant fir the first time for a Thursday lunch, and while reasonably busy, was able to easiy get a table. There's a lunch menu (smaller portion size, lower price) but one may still order a main plate/meal. Food was excellent. Salmon sashimi tastes fresh; Thai fishcakes were delicious with a clear dipping sauce that added a wonderful mild heat to the flavour; the battered fish was delicate, yet meaty - the batter was excellent and crisp and fresh, while the chips were crunchy crisp - served with a light refreshing salad. Dessert looked amazing (I didn't taste of it, but lunch companions enjoyed it). Good drinks menu. Cosy restaurant with great staff. Situated close to the waterfront but warm inside. Nice location in Salamanca - a pleasant walk to and from the restaurant. Highly recommended.
