Bahn Mi "were" amazing. EDIT: Had to edit my review as lately with the amount of uber eats drivers trawling North Hobart like sharks, the service has slipped considerably. Nearly every week at least 5 workers from our business would consistantly order Bahn Mi and chips (take-away). Often the bahn mi would come out first, and then the chips would follow around ten minutes later, by that time the bahn mi are cold. The bahn mi rolls are very hit and miss also, sometimes stale and crumbly, sometimes really good. It has become a bit of a "lucky dip". The last time we ordered there, a work-mate's chips were forgotten altogether, after we spent 25 minutes waiting (half of our lunch break) he had to ask for a refund, as there was little point in waiting for the whole process to start over. A lot of Uber eats drivers in and out constantly, and I feel like the in-house customers are getting neglected. Have been going to Cyclo down the road, and their service (so far) has been much swifter. ( And yes, I have discussed these issues with Saigon Express but the problems keep occuring). They seem to struggle to "listen" to what their customers want. I'm done. Won't be back. EDIT 2: After a 12 month hiatus, decided to try again. In house customer service even worse now, as Ubereats and Menulog still takes preference. You can tell by the wall of 20 or so tablets each pumping out orders that their main business is delivery orders. Gone are the days of giving preference to the person standing in...
Read moreVietnamese food is amongst my favourite so when some friends booked here I was very happy to try them.
Somehow they seemed to have lost the booking so we had to wait outside (which was a cold night) until a couple of tables were free. Luckily we didn't wait too long.
Their menu is more like a large novel. Vietnamese selections, Chinese dishes and then more western style food. There is probably way too many options, maybe they should stick with Vietnamese dishes only.
The staff were friendly and I ordered crispy Chicken wings for an entree and a classic beef Pho for the mains with a Tiger beer (cost $45+). We seemed to wait quite a while for the food to come out which came oddly enough mixed between entrees and mains in mixed order. Nevertheless, my food was super delicious and I struggled to finish it off so ended being very good value.
This is one place you'd want to certainly book beforehand as it was busy when we were there. And double check your booking just to be on the safe side. But very much worth a visit if you like...
Read moreI ordered veg spring rolls, quite acceptable, my partner ordered fried noodles with veg and tofu. It was, I regret to say, one of the worst tasting examples of foodstuffs we have yet to experience. It is not my desire to tear down peoples hard work, but the efforts it must have taken to produce something this bad borders on the supernatural. I tasted a bit after her inability to continue, it seemed as though the noodles were cooked in an old, meaty, oil. Both burnt and gritty. In it were pieces of colourless corn that looked like they had been cooked in some sort of egg white. The fact that this take away dish was finally bought to us after sitting in the warming tray for over 15 minutes (I saw them sheepishly take it from there after finally asking what it was we ordered)) and that two customers arriving after us had almost their whole meal whilst we waited, was only overshadowed by the cost, over $18! It may well have been just an unlucky experience, many reviews here seem to truly enjoy their food. Staff were...
