For a small town like Launceston, this is a real treasure for both locals who adore craft beer and weary travellers alike.

Perhaps because we've usually greeted the staff with smiles and hi's, the staff at St Johns always return friendly looks and have always been helpful and kind - even though they're often busy. And as you'd expect, ANY of the (some would say, wonderfully) bearded men (this has recently changed to a slightly younger, less bearded staff) behind the bar would be most ready to advise which beers on tap is most suitable for you - but of course, they WOULD know their beers with years of thorough, on-the-field, taste research.

There's ALWAYS a good selection on tap... But in case none of the taps tantalises thy taste buds... there is an entire host of possibilities from different continents (in cans and bottles) smack across the bar in the clear fridges. It's all in there!

Of course, the decor is one of the first things anyone would notice, with its funky industrialised grunge chic vibes... you'd expect no less from a down-to-earth hipster craft beer joint.

** I've noticed that a few people have commented on the service - and I would say this: St Johns is definitely a busy bar, it's a great bar to come and have good beers with a group of friends; if you're alone, or even just a pair of, perhaps, on-lookers hoping to get entertained and waited-on with longer-than-usual 'per-customer' times, then another place that isn't so crowded may be more suitable for you. **

Our favourite joint most Fri evenings... No matter the week we've had, the friendly faces here form a large part of what makes Launceston town a lovable, beautiful town, with lovely,...

One of my favourite bars 👌👌 Absolutley love the place! Saint John Craft Beer is a craft beer venue in Tasmania's north, named after its founding position on St. John Street. The glory of Saint John is taking the old age tradition of beer drinking and celebrating its unique contemporary craftsmanship, with a focus on quality ingredients and independent brewing. Saint John Craft Beer offers an intimate space with a unique and relaxed local atmosphere, while being part of the wider global movement that is craft beer.

The Saint John team pride themselves on their selection and knowledge of the finest international, Australian and Tasmanian craft beers, with over 170 bottled beers to either drink in or takeaway, and eight-fourteen rotating kegs on tap. While Saint John specialise in craft beer, they are advocates for all top-notch handcrafted liquor, with many great whiskies and gins to try; providing plenty of opportunity to get a little adventurous in this space.

Saint John Craft Beer serves gourmet burgers and an array of bar snacks from 5.00pm everyday, as the ideal accomplice to fabulous booze.

Have always been curious about this place. Reading reviews here am a bit gutted I missed the Beef Wellington burger that was on the menu a year ago, wish I'd come in before. So I came in pretty much after stepping off the plane from Melbourne after a sleepless night, hectic trip over with an hour delay due to the weather and tried the pork burger. I'd had a very impressive pork belly burger at Republic bar in Hobart so thought I'd see if I could continue the luck with the pork and I was not disappointed. This was a knockout, interesting ingredients and flavours, lovingly cooked with a generous, high quality Scotch fillet of pork, I expected it to be decent but this was really good. It is pretty much perfect gastro pub food, hit the bullseye and the Tasmanian IPA beer from the tap I paired it with complementef it perfectly. The chimichurri sauce the man at the bar recommended to go with the chips was beautiful too. Warm, cosy, inviting atmosphere, staff all really friendly and nice,...

ADDIT: Came back here during peak time to try the menu and further explore the drinks. Unfortunately, we couldn't do this - wait time in the kitchen was over an hour and drink service slowed right down too. While I recognise places get busy, I thought this was a bit much. The location is very large and I think this adds in part to the problem; too big to serve everyone in it. The beers are still too tier, they just need to work on capacity a bit and working with higher numbers ---------------- Walking by exploring the town and this place caught my attention quick. Coming in and the vibe is the first thing you feel - multiple rooms with a bit of a dive bar feel, however, more elevated The alcohol options are endless and need to be further explored What we did have though tasted great and was served by passionate staff When I come back here for a feed I'm sure this place will fall into my must-visits, but for now it's a must from a drinks-and-chill perspective.

Bummer ! Last time we had lunch here, ordered the pork belly tacos and they were so good. I came to Launceston for my bday wknd and wanted those great tacos. Well, I ordered 2 pork belly tacos & 1 baby corn. 30 minutes later, my food came out cold . I asked staff if they could please re-do my meal. 30 seconds later, (microwave?) tacos came out like mush. Last time you could actually tell the pork was chunks of meat ! This time couldnt even distinquish what was meat or ? No. I didnt get to eat. Drag is I thought I found a good place to eat & it was so bad & traveled two hrs for my bday ! Live & learn. Moving here from the US, thought I found a good place. Nope.
