One of the best Indian places I have been to. The most authentic taste of North Indian cuisine- if that's what you are after - this is the place to go to. No need to customise the order- just take it as it comes !
We were looking for some Indian option and decided to go for Spice on Charles going by the Rating. We decided to order in (pick.up) and reached the place ahead of time hoping to get the food ready before time. But we were told to wait and the owner mentioned it would be worth it. And we were not disappointed ! Dal Makhani was well cooked, thick and full of flavors. The white butter tasted like authentic white butter. It was so good that we almost finished one box by itself- didn't need any bread!! Paneer butter masala had the right spices in, wasn't too mild or too hot. It was also not heavy, the gravy was so rich and delicious. Butter chicken was amazing too. The chicken pieces were tender and property cooked in tandoor. The curry was again so tasty and rich. Garlic, plain naan, tandoori roti and rice were great to go with the curries and Dal.
We are very particular about Indian food and its authenticate taste and there are very few places who can bring some great good Indian flavours. Mantra At Charles is definitely among the top on that list!
There is a reason their food takes a bit longer to prepare and that's because Spice At Charles team don't take shortcuts.
If you live in Launceston or are visiting, this restaurant is definitely...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIām going to start by saying our main meals were delicious. We had poppadoms to start which came with a sauce. The poppadoms were seasoned so a bit too salty for us and the sauce was a strange flavour that tasted a bit like a cross between Bisto gravy and bbq sauce. Weāre from England and if you order poppadoms theyāre large about 30 cm across and they come with a pickle tray of raita, lime pickle onion and cucumber salad and one or two others so we were a little surprised by what arrived. I was then a little dubious about our main meals but neednāt have worried as mine was absolute delicious. I had the Chefs special prawns and the flavours were sublime, and good quality prawns perfectly cooked and plenty of them. My friend had the daal veggies and he said they were really good. Prices seemed reasonable. We had a couple of beers each and the total was less than $80AU I would definitely recommend for the mains and next time would try something different for starters The waiting staff were lovely and the place is nice and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreatmosphere was nice and comfortable but food was very slow and we waited for quite some time to get our food, at that point we were so hungry that iām not too sure whether the food was that good or we were just starving food was quite decent but some dishes werenāt really to my palette (singaporean) iām unsure how close these are to authentic indian dishes so these are my personal opinions the butter chicken was a tad too sweet to my liking as well as compared to other butter chicken iāve had chicken briyani was also really really fragrant causing an overtly strong flavor that i couldnāt really appreciate overall the dishes were decent but werenāt really worth the long wait staff however were very friendly :) dishes i would recommend include the prawn curry, chicken 65...
