When we arrived in Margaret River last week we intended to eat at the Tavern in the main street. Sadly it was closed for lunches. Then we tried the hotel. Sadly they had their chairs up on the tables. Oh dear! Where to go?? THEN we found the Kingston Bakery and Cafe. It was difficult to make a choice because all the food looked fabulous. We settled on fish and chips for one and the other had salt and pepper squid and chips. Both meals were served with salad. Those lunches were wonderful to say the least. Then we decided we might eat a cake for dessert. I chose a custard slice and hubby chose a lemon meringue tart. Before I could eat mine a lovely waitress came out with her giant knife and proceeded to cut it up (very expertly I might add) so that I didn't end up in a mess with custard oozing out all over me. That sort of service is not often seen. Then we decided to buy two pies to take home with us for dinner later on. The whole lot only cost $54.80 so their food is very well priced. We know we will go back there again. And by the way, the pies were yummy too with plenty of...
Read moreNot a great brekky in Margs. They had two different breakfast menus for some reason which got things off to a confusing start. Small flat white was served in same cup as a regular which just meant it was dilute and milky like a latte. Brioche roll for breakfast bun had clearly been frozen and rapidly defrosted in microwave as inside was rock hard and uneatable. Poached eggs were overcooked and hard. Sauce bottle lids were sticky and dirty and the whole seating area just felt a bit grubby and unloved. Overall far from the brunch standard you expect in Oz and just felt nothing was done with care. When we brought it up staff were apologetic and understanding and offered a partial refund (for the frankly abominable breakfast burger) and plate of fruit as apology hence the 2 stars rather than 1. Not sure how there are so many good reviews to be honest… maybe we were just unlucky but then that means consistency’s not there. Would not recommend unless things...
Read moreFood was okay, nothing special but reasonably priced. The service was terrible. Ordered eggs benedict and had been waiting forty minutes; they were busy, so we didn't mind too much. I politely asked a staff member about it, just to remind them in case they'd forgotten. He said, "expect a long wait." His tone and facial expression showed irritation. Still, I asked how long he thought we'd be waiting. He said, "a long time," as abruptly as before. At this point, I became a little annoyed myself, and asked him if he would give us some indication of how long we'd be waiting. He disappeared without a word, then returned and told us they were cooking it now and had indeed forgotten. There was no apology and he looked at me aggressively when he brought out the food (about an hour after we'd ordered). I've worked in customer service before and I know it can be frustrating, but there really wasn't a need for this behaviour in...
