Movida Next Door, the more casual dining venue to the original Movida @MovidaMelb, presents a bustling atmosphere where one can enjoy tapas and a range of larger plates. I started with 4 tapas, a larger plate and then a dessert.
Sangria Upon the first sip the first thing one can taste is the spices, then fruitiness, and then a lovely strong taste of red wine, this is so tasty, particularly against rich food.
Anchovy - hand filleted Cantabrian artisan anchovy with smoked tomato sorbet on crouton
Once the sorbet is spread across it gives the most delicious pairing with the anchovy, like a burst of freshness from the sea. Wow, fantastic creation.
Miguel - spice saffron chicken escabeche on crouton
A freshness akin to a chicken salad, the chicken has a lovely subtle flavour with a touch of chilli and is very tasty.
Croquette - crispy fried with zucchini & Manchego
Hard to go past these and wow, was this superb. Perfectly golden brown crumb, just the right amount of seasoning, crunchy, delicious rich creamy filling, gooey Manchego, so satisfying.
Bomba - choux pastry filled with duck liver parfait and fresh nectarine
A lovely firm but light choux encases smooth pate, however, the pairing of the nectarine against the rich pate is excellent with the fruit flavour elevating the dish. Really enjoyed this creation particularly as I have a fondness for pastry.
Chocos - Lakes Entrance cuttlefish, marinated & pan fried served with chickpea, mint and tomato salad
Needed something light after the rich pate and this fitted the bill. The cuttlefish has a soft rubbery kind of texture in terms of mouth feel but is tender and well prepared. With a good squeeze of lemon, citrus and seafood are an excellent combination and along with the chickpeas and vinaigrette is tasty.
Churros with drinking chocolate Hard to go past a classic in a Spanish restaurant. I've eaten a lot of churros but these were light and didn't leave one felling heavy or bloated. Crispy on the outside, soft in the middle, against a smooth chocolate sauce but, it too, is light and can be drunk without feeling sick as it isn't rich but the chocolate flavour just shines through.
Excellent dining experience, flavoursome dishes, lovely atmosphere, comfortably satisfied.

Read moreWe booked a table for 8 at Movida Next Door, Melbourne.
We had a lovely meal, but unfortumately our experience was spoilt at the end, by one of the male waiters who spilled food on my wife's brand new white jacket which she bought earlier that day.
Towards the end of the meal, a waiter tried to clear the plates from our table and we warned him that he was taking too many plates at once.
In fact, some of the cutleries fell onto the table as he first attempted to remove the stacked plates. He then said, ' it's ok I can do it', after which he picked up more plates and cutleries.
He must have carried about 5-6 plates in one go with knives and forks on top. He then lost his grip and the plates were off balance, resulting in a knife falling onto my wife's brand new jacket. This had caused oily red staining on the white jacket.
We were disappointed by the male waiter who spilled food on my wife's jacket. We tried warning him, but despite this he did not listen and went ahead anyway carrying too many plates and cutleries in one go. The far worst thing about this incident is that, the waiter in question did not make any effort to apologize to us and justdisappeared without taking any responsibility or showing any common courtesy.

Read moreYes yes yes! Everything yes! Unbelievable food, I LIVE for tapas, and this place does tapas the correct Spaniard way!! Tiny portions for you to mix, match, and try, and you don’t even have to get the same stuff as your eating partners even if you’re used to sharing tapas. Everything we ate was excellent. Croquettas, the venison salad OMG, the tartare, they import Iberico ham which made me so super nostalgic for Barcelona, the chicken skewers, and even the drinks. But for me the piece de resistance was the smoked kingfish with iced gazpacho and pine nuts. It was so good I ordered it twice! Dessert: the flan was excellent. The mille feuille was good but a bit rich for my taste and kind of hard to cut through, but the sauces and dried oranges were great. Try to get a high top table or bar seat with a view of the kitchen and you’ll get to eat everyone else’s dishes with your eyes. We even considered coming here the next night just to try the rest of the menu. The servers were awesome, and the ambiance in the place screams tapas bar - elegant yet low key down to earth. We highly enjoyed this...
