My first time trying the breakfast offerings and I opted for the basic smashed avocado which did not disappoint. A generous helping of feta paired with a nice water view kept me quite satisfied Most recent I used to work about three metres from this place so I've eaten here plenty of times and I don’t think it’s deserving of its low score. The menu has something for everyone including vegan and kids options though I am sad to see the steak sandwich disappear. Will try the flourless chocolate cake next time Latest Common man is screening the footy with contactless ordering which makes it the perfect place to be! I had a Margherita pizza which was delicious. Friday night is usually heaving with the after work crowd making it super loud but given covid it’s much quieter now which is kind of nice as it means you can actually catch up with friends and hear each other! Recent Something possessed me to try a chicken salad at Common Man today which was kind of nonsensical as the purple patch area outside was serving frozen chambord cocktails and had fun lawn games set up. Nothing against my healthy salad but I’ll definitely be back for one of the cool events they run out there, perhaps bottomless brunch or outdoor trivia they seem to do these really well Further update I met some friends for lunch last week for a quick steak sandwich which absolutely hit the spot. It’s the second time I’ve had this here and not much has changed other then the presentation of the fries, consistently delicious! Update I met some friends here for dinner as they were staying at the nearby Travelodge hotel. Having been only once before for dinner and that being during daylight savings it was quite a different experience on a dark night and decidedly more quiet. I liked the look of two salads on the menu and the staff actually let me merge them which was quite yummy but the food took a long time to come. Having the shops open after dinner was very handy too Original review I went to the ballet at the exhibition centre so popped in here for dinner prior. It's a good pre-show option as it's quick and nearby. We were told to order at the counter which I think was due to it being so close to Christmas and really busy as every other time I've been it's table service. I had calamari and a house made iced tea both enjoyable. It was certainly a very popular venue of a Friday night

The Common Man is a fabulous little restaurant that can be found along the Yarra River at Southbank near DFO Wharf. We made our booking online to ensure a table at this popular restaurant. When we arrived we were greeted by very friendly staff and asked where we would like to sit. We had the choice of inside, out the front or across the walkway in a marquee area that had a big tv screen, music playing and many portable gas heaters. We chose in the marquee area. Once we were seated we made our order using the QR code on the table which took us to an online menu where you ordered and paid. Our drinks coming out about 10 mins later and our meals came out after another 15 minutes and fabulous meals they were. The portion sizes are large and we struggled to get through it all. We chose a size of yummy fries, Linguini Primavera and Chicken & Bacon Amatricana Linguini. It was absolutely delicious. While we were eating the wind had picked up and was quite cool. One of the incredible staff members came over and asked us if we would like one of the tall heaters lit and moved it next to us. What more can I say, this is an amazing restaurant that I highly recommend. We will definitely be back the next time we visit Melbourne.

I ordered the noddle salad. Sounded great on paper but when it came out was a pile of undercooked vermicelli with a tiny amount of salad sprinkled on top almost like a garnish. The dressing was horrible tasted like eating noodles soaked in soft drink. I didn’t eat more than a few mouthfuls. My partner had the grilled chicken and avocado salad, the dressing seemed to be just olive oil and there was so much dressing that the salad was swimming in it, not very pleasant. Be prepared to eat from Cardboard bowls with wooden cutlery. The music in the outdoor dining area kept cutting in and out. Asked a staff member if anything could be done (would be better if they turned it off) and they said no, they were having Bluetooth issues but couldn’t turn it off, it was quite annoying. Went up to the counter to ask for some salt just after our meals arrived, they said they would bring it out but 20 mins later still waiting and we’ve finished eating. Coffee wasn’t great and there is no kids menu. Shame as the location and setting is lovely.

Very confused and dissapointed by our bizarre experience at this establishment today. My friend and I waited in line to place orders for take away on Saturday 30/03/24 around 3pm. The man working told us he would take our order but walked off. We waited about 10 minutes before he came back. Some other girl working looked like she was about to take our order before the man cut her off and told us he was too busy to take our orders in a very rude way. I kind of gave him a very puzzled look and said “you’ve got to be joking, you’re turning customers away? Don’t you guys need to make money when you’re paying staff public holiday penalty rates?” He rudely told us yes we weren’t getting service at this point as he was too busy. He was literally holding a whole queue of customers (maybe 15-20 waiting to order and saying he wasnt going to take any orders) I shrugged my shoulders and said to him that my friend and I would go elsewhere if it’s too difficult to put in one order for coffee and a juice. To this, he very rudely rudely said “see ya”, stuck his nose up at his and gave us a very sarcastic in genuine wage goodbye.

Very appalled by this lack of customer service. This is not customer service and this is going to cost you customers in the long run. Really hope this man isn’t a manager of this establishment as his social skills and behaviour were shocking. No tact, rude and just a very hostile and aggressive man that made this establishment feel very uncomfortable to be in. Also would like to note, myself and my friend were never rude at any point. We waited patiently and were being understanding of the wait time. It wasn’t until the man rudely told us he wasn’t serving us, that I questioned on what planet was his tone and his logic of customer service appropriate. Just want to point that out before anyone tries to spin this with a reply to say that myself and my friend behaved rudely because that...

Very disappointed with our visit. We came to Melbourne for a week and caught up for dinner with our friends at the common man. I ordered a chilli linguini, which came out 30 minutes after we ordered it. My linguine was overly salty (and not chilli) so I mentioned it to the manager (big guy, bold head) and he actually was very kind at the time, saying that he will fix it straight away and a new dish will come out very shortly. Well, 20 minutes later, whilst my friends all finished eating I went up to the kitchen pass where the manager was standing and I told him that I just want to cancel the dish, I had been waiting for 50 minutes for my meal to arrive, my friends and partner all finished eating and we wanted to leave shortly. The manager was very rude in this instance, started arguing with me, saying he can put it in a take away box (I explained we were staying at a hotel and I had no chance to heat it up somewhere) and he just kept on going on, saying they cooked now 2 dishes which they have to throw (well, the salty dish was not my fault and Working in hospitality, I know that food doesn’t just get thrown out when it’s untouched) I asked for a refund as we ordered via QR-code and the manager said, sure I will process it. I knew in my gut feeling that he wasn’t going to refund my money. And I was right, I’m here 3 weeks later and no refund was being processed. I also emailed the restaurant without any answer. It’s a shame I had such a bad experience at this place, it’s a great location right next to the dfo but I won’t be going back there and won’t recommend any one to go...
