Nothing blew my mind if I’m going to be honest, the most surprising thing was the service and timing of the food

One would expect an establishment such as Bistrot Bisou to pride themselves on service but that was probably what let us down the most, informed we would only have the table for an hour and a half was fine but with this comes the expectation of timely service to aid in the timely leaving of our party

Took 15minutes to get water, and when our waitress was taking our drinks order we had requested to also place our food order in the interest of time. She said she would come back for the food order. She did, she came back 20 minutes later, our drinks had arrived at the table before she did….

Our entrees were quick to arrive and then a long 25 minute wait for food was wild.

I loved the confit duck but what took so long in a professional kitchen that should have most things prepped

Everything we had was fine, prawns on the grill were okay, cooked well, nothing amazing

Pate was super average, with only two slices of bread was a bit tragic

Steak and fries was lovely, cooked and seasoned perfectly so I was super happy with that

All in all, was okay. We wanted to order dessert but was told the table was needed so just decided to leave, could’ve been a fine experience but unfortunately, it was not.

Even when we were asked for the table the staff member said to us as we were waiting for someone to bring the bill ‘sorry ladies we really need the table back, our next reservation has arrived’ to which we replied we can leave at anytime once you bring the cheque, we are waiting for someone else to bring it. Wild, seems like staff don’t really talk...

I went tonight with a group of friends. We had a booking for 7:15 and had called up to confirm that 1 person could do a la carte if the rest do the set menu. We started to arrive at 6:45. At 8:05 they came over and asked what food we wanted with no explanation of the menu or check ins prior.. I was of the understanding based off my phone call that we were doing the set menu.

The food started to come out slowly ans we were all equally a underwhelmed by the menu. There was 1 vegeatatian dish in the set menu that stood out as amazing, a mushroom dish. Everything else fell flat. The explanation of the dishes was hard to understand and at times the portions didn't make sense for the number of people dining.

The set dishes included 1x Okra which was probably my favourite. 1 piece of sour dough with alioli 1 piece of Ham with a bread stick which was fatty King Fish crudo to share by 2 3 beetroot dishes shared by 7 A fish dish shared by 2 Desserts.

The portions were all on the small size.

I have done a lot of set menu and I've never experienced friends leaving and getting other food on the way home because they were still hungry. That is what happened tonight.

The positives, great drinks. Beautiful fit out, all gender toilets. It's in a part of the city where there aren't many restaurants with that quality of venue design

It's still only their 3rd week so hopefully they iron out the kinks but I doubt any of us will be...

ORDERED: 🦪 Scallop gratin: Truffle verjus, caviar ($15.00) 🥩 Steak tartare: Classic condiments, egg and toast ($22.00)

🐟 Market fish à la Meunière with prawns & speck ($48.00) 🦆 Confit of duck leg: Bacon, peas, mint sauce ($32.00) 🥔 Truffle pomme puree ($12.00)

🍎 Apple Tarte Tatin with calvados, vanilla ice cream ($18.00)

I spent $84.08 here (between 2 people).

REVIEW: 🌟 The standout from Bistrot Bisou were the entrees. Impactful flavour, unapologetic bombing of deliciousness - we should've spent more time in this section. 😢 When it cames to the main, we found the execution a little... lacking. The market fish dish where another has praised its CRISPY skin was anything but that. We did notice more prawns and speck though! The accompanying "mint sauce" from the duck leg seemed a little bit on the drier end. The duck leg itself was pretty delicious! Truffle pomme had great flavour, but the presentation looked a little sad. It helped to get over the dryness of the duck leg. There's definitely potential for the mains at Bistot Bisou, but I wasn't satisfied from this experience. 😭

☁ The environment is beautiful, with soft plush rugs underneath our feet. Service from the brunette girl was on point - water was topped, friendly vibes. We felt welcome! Overall it felt quite luxurious but the food wasn't...

@bistrotbisou 📍 @hotelindigomelbourne CBD Bistrot Bisou is a brand new French restaurant located on the ground floor of Hotel Indigo in Melbournes CBD. It is brought to you by Chef Luke Mangan, serving classic French fare. 🇫🇷 The venue is still the same stunning fitout from its previous Spanish tenancy, Beso. We were invited to the launch event just days before opening, with a special limited menu to test out. ➖ Chicken Liver & Bacon - the shallot relish was a nice touch, just wanted something to eat it with. ➖ Warm Leeks, Hazelnuts - all the flavours went well but wished there was more of it! ➖ Steak Tartare, Melba Toast - bread was stale/chewy. Not enough flavour, needed more punchy elements. ➖ Wood Roasted Poussin, Tarragon Butter Sauce - lacked char and a crispy skin. Very tender. ➖ Market Fish A La Meuniere - barely any prawn or speck or sauce. The fish itself was cooked beautifully with a crispy skin. ➖ Floating Island, Raspberry Sorbet, Anglaise - delicious sorbet! ➖ Apple Tarte Tatin, Vanilla Icecream - would’ve loved some more sweetness in the dish. Overall, we did think it was a great menu, however it needed improvements in execution, some portions needed to be bigger for value. It was an opening event so I am sure it will only get better! Staff are outstanding. 👏🏽 ⭐️ 3.2/5 💸 $$$
