Stubby Cafe Bar& Restaurant — Restaurant in Melbourne

We visited this restaurant while on a trip, looking forward to simply enjoying a few drinks together. Upon arrival, everyone in our group was asked for ID. Those without physical ID provided digital proof, which the bartender initially accepted and said would be fine “this time.” However, when returning to the bar for a second round of drinks, we were suddenly refused service. When we asked why, the bartender claimed that our group was “sharing drinks.” We requested that she check the surveillance footage to confirm this accusation, but she refused and stated that because of the way we questioned the decision, she would not verify the manager’s claim. This was extremely disappointing and felt unprofessional. What should have been a simple and enjoyable experience turned into an uncomfortable situation where we felt unfairly treated and singled out. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this venue, particularly for people from diverse ethnic backgrounds, as the service came across as discriminatory...

I am extremely unsatisfied with my service. Me and my family walked into the bar expecting a fun time on our holiday. Instead of having a couple drinks and a fun night, after some of us ordered 1 drink the server decided she wouldn’t serve us anymore. Me and my brother had only drank a glass of water so rightfully we asked why we were being cut off and they simply repeated “I have no choice, my boss said so”. Obviously we wouldn’t accept that as an answer but they brought out 2 more people and all they kept saying was “my boss said so there’s nothing I can do” finally a third woman walked out and blatantly lied saying “you were caught on cameras sharing drinks” and then because my rightfully annoyed uncle started raising their voice they forced us to leave. I am extremely upset at their inability to explain the situation, provide a manager and their lies at the end. Really disappointing meal today. The food quality was questionable, both the butter chicken and parma had chicken that seemed off, with a strange crumbly texture that made us wonder how fresh it was.

The service was the worst part though. When we politely asked to cancel an item we hadn't touched yet, the single staff member flat out refused even though we were the only customers there. There was no attempt at customer accommodation or finding a solution. While we understand restaurant policies, some flexibility in customer service would have been appreciated.
