Courtyard 55 — Restaurant in Melbourne

Courtyard 55 is located in the middle of the St Vincent’s hospital grounds. It’s a busy place to be sure. There were people - staff, patients and visitors - lined up continuously for coffee and other things here this morning.

The cafe has indoor and outdoor areas. It was nice in the sun today. Service was distant here but certainly efficient and almost snappy. I found myself quite admiring the offhandedness and in double quick time I had my toastie and coffee. The problem was it was a rather basic toastie. The bread was almost seeded. A few poppy seeds doesn’t cut it for mine. The ham, cheese and tomato were basic commercial offerings. Seasoning might have saved the sandwich a little but sadly it was under seasoned and it ended up being near tasteless. My coffee was average but OK too.

Conclusion: it’s a basic cafe. I think the thing I admire most is that the cafe is almost thrillingly untouched by hipster influence in the middle of hipsterville Fitzroy in food and coffee obsessed inner Melbourne. That’s...

This is my go to cafe during work hours, but today as I was ordering my lunch, lady at the counter was extremely rude nd laughing with other colleague of her while working. I find this behaviour inappropriate and no longer wanted to get served my her. I wish manager would see my review and pay attention to this matter. Does not respect veganism. Asked for a long black with cold water, they put cold milk. Which was extremely disappointing but not the issue - the issue was the man working there who said “if it was an allergy it would be a different story and you could ask for a refund, but it isn’t, and you’re taking advantage”.
