Courtyard 55 is located in the middle of the St Vincentâs hospital grounds. Itâs a busy place to be sure. There were people - staff, patients and visitors - lined up continuously for coffee and other things here this morning.
The cafe has indoor and outdoor areas. It was nice in the sun today. Service was distant here but certainly efficient and almost snappy. I found myself quite admiring the offhandedness and in double quick time I had my toastie and coffee. The problem was it was a rather basic toastie. The bread was almost seeded. A few poppy seeds doesnât cut it for mine. The ham, cheese and tomato were basic commercial offerings. Seasoning might have saved the sandwich a little but sadly it was under seasoned and it ended up being near tasteless. My coffee was average but OK too.
Conclusion: itâs a basic cafe. I think the thing I admire most is that the cafe is almost thrillingly untouched by hipster influence in the middle of hipsterville Fitzroy in food and coffee obsessed inner Melbourne. Thatâs...
