This was the best meal of my entire life. The spaghetti bolognese felt like a completely new dish every time I tasted it. I could write poems and novels about the experience I felt while eating here, but even those poems and novels as a whole could never explain how it felt when I had my meal. It has been many years since my favourite pasta was overtaken. The title was last stolen by my father, and since then I have never had a better pasta dish. Until now. This spaghetti bolognese will likely hold the title for the rest of my life. I could not imagine how a more delicious masterpiece could be created. I am furious that the rating of this restaurant is not exactly 5.0 stars. Order the spaghetti bolognese and you will NOT be disappointed. Then, come back and write a 5 star review.

Update Have dined at Beachcomber on oh so many occasions but today it was a take away ice cream that did the trick. I was impressed to see so many dessert choices including many homemade options but I stuck to apple pie gelato which was delicious. The blueberry cheesecake flavour was not bad either Original review Absolutely stunning atmosphere and while the food is nothing too elaborate I have never had any issues. It's standard beach fare if you will, seafood, fish and chips, burgers; albeit a little more expensive than your average pub but you have to consider the unbelievable views. I'm quite content with paying $35 for calamari and chips when I get to sit waterfront with the sea breeze delighting me. I have recommended it several times to international visitors for lunch.

Attended on 25/4/23. Ordered food at 14:39. App stated 35 minutes wait. Waited 60 minutes and asked one of the waiters for an update and the reply was people have been waiting for an hour. This demeanour of sheer indifference of the waiter was rather shocking. 80 minutes later still no food so went to the counter only to be told that they could not find our order. After locating our order we are assured that food was being plated so came back patiently to the table. Hopefully the quality of food makes up. Will we come back? hmmmm… 16:33 food arrives cold (after yet another enquiry at the counter) ordered the Fisherman’s Feast, chips leathery, battered fish cold and not very palatable. Trio of dips was good. Regretted the decision about grabbing a quick bite and then the kids hitting the beach because this never happened as temperature had already dropped. Wasted a beautiful ANZAC day. There are some great reviews for this place and maybe the trick is to go there when it’s not busy as their service under pressure is certainly not commendable.

To say my experience here was bad is a MASSIVE understatement. Today, on this fine Sunday afternoon, I decided to try out a restaurant right next to the beach which seemed to be booming with customers (as many people were lining up and waiting to be seated). We were lucky to only wait 10 minutes for a seat. We ordered the spaghetti marinara and the salmon, to say the least, we were very disappointed with waiting an hour for our mains. They arrived cold. And for, $45-$50 for a main course, we expect better. Presentation wise, not impressed. Our two rounds of drinks came faster than our mains which were meh. Service wise, I believe the waiters were running around like headless chooks as there were too many orders for them to process. Overall, not worth the experience. Don’t waste your money. The beach view is the only worth while experience you’ll get from dining here. The second photo is our “finished” plates.

Worst. Chips. Ever. Paid $20 for a bowl of chips for them to come out cold and stale. Even the look of them, we could tell they had been sitting in old oil or in the counter. We kindly asked for a new bowl of chips that were fresher but got the same quality out again so whoever was on chip duty that night was just doing people dirty. The waiter obviously wasn’t too happy with us for even requesting another bowl and the attitude was not appreciated at all. The vibe we were getting makes us also think the weird stringy part in the new gravy pot is probably spit…cheers. I don’t usually complain at all but this was just so sad because we usually love coming here and have enjoyed amazing food here before but I couldn’t let this slide as the service was shocking to go with it.

Beachcomber Cafe is a great place to have Awesome Appetites with great views of St Kilda Beach. I really enjoyed my time here as I had my toes dipped in the sand. I would suggest you dine outside on the beach where you can easily place your order with their OR code on each table. I didn’t have to wait long for the food after to arrive and the customer service was friendly and easygoing. This is a place I’d recommend you visit because I’ll be coming back with my family and friends for more Awesome Appetites and beach views.
