So many times I wanted to go in but couldn’t as it’s almost always busy at lunch time and somehow always I read the sign as “Osaka beach” instead of “Osaka bench” and now that I rod it I know nothing about Osaka and if it’s a costal town or not 🤷🏽‍♂️ I’ll start with the negative, it’s a bit cramped tight space as so many other reviews say. Also when you stand at the counter to place your order, you’re right at the door with a drinks fridge behind you. Super uncomfortable/inconvenient spot with people trying to walk in and you feeling bad for blocking their path but can’t move coz you’re at the counter and can’t do nothing about the fridge behind you. And yes to add to all this it’s a door that swings inward to open, maybe a sliding door might help? But the real question is why is it still so busy? The answer is 1. Food: it’s bloody amazing 🤩. Taste so good and I wanna say authentic but I’ve never been to Osaka (or Japan if I’m being honest). The flavour is bursting, cooked right in front of you by friendly staff. Just the right amount of umami and love 2. Value: yes the food is amazing value. Meals under $20? Sign me up, also did I mention it tastes good? Yeah I did. I’ll definitely be back and may probably look at takeout or delivery if it’s too busy inside.

Got the chicken katsu curry don. I love how this dish despite many similarities can really end up so different (and always delicious) at all different restaurants. Osaka bench was no exception, with another unique and delicious rendition of this classic. The chicken katsu retained its juiciness and still had a great crunchy outside. The curry sauce was quite mild (which is to my liking happily), but did not lack flavour at all. The rice portion was tasty and generous in volume. It came with some pickled ginger and a good amount of cabbage with Japanese mayonnaise (somewhat coleslaw like, minus carrot). The latter of which was surprising, but ended up quite a tasty addition While a slightly smaller katsu and amount of curry sauce than some other places will give. The generous rice portion, addition of the 'coleslaw like' side and cheap price overall made for satisfying value. The rest of the menu looked very well priced, so I will certainly be coming back to try some more options.

My hubby and I visited Osaka Bench for a date night, and it was everything we hoped for and more! We ordered the Okonomiyaki, Omurice, Prawn Ramen, and two appetizers—Takoyaki and Pork Gyoza. The Okonomiyaki was cooked right in front of us, and you could taste the authenticity with every bite—crispy edges, a perfect mix of ingredients, and that signature umami flavour. The Omurice was pure comfort food; the fluffy omelette draped over seasoned rice with a rich gravy was just chef’s kiss. The Prawn Ramen was a standout—fresh, springy prawns in a broth that was packed with depth and warmth. Perfect for a cool Melbourne evening! And the appetizers? The Takoyaki had that perfect crisp-to-gooey ratio, and the Pork Gyoza were light, crispy, and bursting with flavour. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, and the service was quick and friendly. If you’re after authentic Osaka-style street food right here in Melbourne, this is the spot. We’re already planning our next visit!

Haven't tried omurice so popped into @OsakaBench_Au with a few workmates into the cosy reataurant styled just like what you'd find in Japan and the warm hospitality and service is no different. I ordered the omurice - Japanese omelette with chicken rice and Japanese curry. We had a seat overlooking the kitchen on the narrow tables and then I was presented with my dish. The omelette didn't spew open like that of Mikiko Terasaki's version as demonstrated on MasterChef but the omelette is tasty as too the fried rice. It's a lovely pleasant meal significantly enhanced by the delicious Japanese curry. I love the crunchy fried katsu chicken but there's only one piece. A satisfying meal but not one that left me full so went back for takayak - octopus balls. They were really delicious, a soft batter encasing tender pieces of octopus accompanied by Kewpie mayo, BBQ sauce, nori and bonito flakes. They disappeared in no time.

Stay away from this place!!!

Not sure how this place has 4.3 stars upon writing this review.. I assume it's from all the fake reviews from a month ago. But if you want good food and service, DO NOT go here. My partner and I ordered the onurice curry flavour and the pork belly bento and were really disappointed with it all.

The egg with her omurice was just an over-fried egg with no effort to make it properly whatsoever. And then I had to wait 25 minutes for my prok belly bento. I asked him 15 minutes in and said another 2 minutes but ended up waiting another 10 minutes. Upon being served it, it wasn't even the right Bento.. they gavee the teriyaki chicken.. at that point I was too hungry and annoyed to say anything as the way they served the gentleman in front of us was so obnoxious and rude it was a real turn off and I wanted to leave ASAP.

Absolutely disgusting service and the food was just so average.. save your money or spend it somewhere else.. just not here. Will be telling everyone to stay away...
