Zoumi — Restaurant in Melbourne

Food is pretty good, with good serving sizes. Nothing wrong with the food here.. but the service is really bad. I’ve been here twice now and both times the servers have had absolutely no idea what they are doing.. like not a single idea..

I got a chicken schnitzel sandwich one day. I asked for some extra fried mushrooms. The server got a big clump of mushroom and placed the whole clump on one side of the sandwich. I had to repeatedly five times tell her, what I wanted and how I wanted it, and she still got my order wrong. I wanted to jump over the counter and do it myself, she had absolutely no idea what she was doing. It was hard to watch.

The next day I asked for a quiche, when I went to pay, she called it a pie and gave me the wrong quiche. Then almost over charged me before I pulled her up. I also asked for a short machiato.. she didn’t know what a short machiato was and I had to explain it 4 times..

Visited this place a fair bit as it’s local to my work. The first few times I ordered hot food(schnitzel and lamb souvlaki)which was reasonably priced and fairly decent tasting. Started to order sandwiches which I always regretted later in the day, and I frequently developed a sore stomach hours after eating. Noticed the cheese in the sandwiches smelled mouldy. Overall hygiene practices in this place are poor, sandwich makers were not using gloves and a few of them had messy and unkept hair without hair nets. The fan above the register has what looks like cobwebs collecting dust trapped in grease… the whole restaurant looks filthy and and they would never clean up water spills which I almost slipped and on one time. The owner seems like a lovely guy but has a lot to learn in general OH&S and food handling safety. I understand this place is seen as value for the majority of their customers but selling mouldy cheese...

What a gem! You wouldn't expect it from the outside, but the food is absolutely delicious and so affordable. The steak sandwiches were top notch (and a total bargain) - made fresh and we were even asked how we'd like the steak cooked. Large portions, friendly staff and a casual environment. Can't go wrong if you're hungry for a big lunch!
