Visited The George Darby for lunch with family. The venue looks great after renovations, but still feels like it’s finding its character. The cheeseburger was overcooked and dry, while the schnitzel was moist and tasty—though the salad portion was small for the price. Overall, we found the food expensive for what was offered. Despite branding itself as a family-friendly pub, there was no baby change table in any bathroom, which made things tricky with our 1-year-old. The elevator to the bistro is right next to the pokies area, which smelled strongly of cigarettes—not ideal for families. Beer selection was solid, and I’d love to see more independent and local options featured. Staff were friendly, and service was good. With some improvements to amenities, pricing, and atmosphere, this venue could really shine.

Hubby & I decided to stop in for dinner and some drinks as the establishment has recently re-opened, the young bartenders were amazing. However, it was unfortunate to see the way some of the younger bartenders were being spoken to by other members of staff, considering the composure the aforementioned staff members kept during such a busy time. I think establishments like these, well situated - go to spots, need to treat their younger staff members with more respect

The feed here is next level. The flavours that hit the palette are so moreish. The staff were very accommodating with such short notice for our booking. Speedy service, and looked after our every need. I highly recommend this place for your next outing

Jesus I am too old for this place now. It was the first time I've ever been there. My old man worked there in the day, round late 90s early 2000s (i think, could have been earlier than that but i ant asking him at 1:38 in the morning) as a chef so actually going inside and seeing what the place was like was kind of a trip. I know it would have changed a lot since he worked there, who knows. Anyway, I digress. Anyway, it's a pub. I was there for a child free drinking night with my mates from charlestown dungeons and dragons adventurers league. Nerds, amirite? Anyway. The place was a stark reminder of how old I am now hahaha I went home with my dignity. I can only hope I can say the same for some of the younger folk there tonight. Maybe it's the old barman in me but geez Louise I felt for the staff. I watched a guy swirl his drink splashing it all over the bar like it was no biggie. He wasnt the only one, either. The young bartender just smiled as they cleaned the bar with a handy rag you knew they had way too much experience with. Thank you for your service, by the way. I ended having a little dance. The security guard even let me use the bathroom after id already left before i called an uber. Top bloke. To be honest, it was a bit of a pub crawl because one of the crew had just turned 18. He's going to feel it tomorrow. Cheers for a good end to my night,...

What an evening! What an evening indeed.....

One moment I am enjoying myself playing skate 3 with my brother and a friend, next minute we have decided that we are going out to dinner at Finnegans!!! to get some Jamaican food because my family simply keeps raving on about it!

We go to the the restaurant with my sibling who is only 15 years of age! We are sitting in the lounge when a certain mr grumpy tell us that it is time for us to leave! what a pity :(

Next minute we are eating food with our bare hands in the middle of the park because somebody forgot to pick up the cutlery! Oh no! We eat food with our hands, it is still rather tasty, although the rice is a little hard to eat.

Next minute, after a late night stop at Kwon Mart, we are at home watching psychopath Zac Efron movie on Netflix, my oh my how he has grown up......

What a night, what a night indeed, a night to remember, some might even say the best of nights! And it all started with just a few friends who wanted to hang out and have...

We were a group of three. Bar service was hit or miss with who the bartender saw first, we weren’t keen on the seemingly dirty silver 125 mls canister that was used to pour every glass of wine… a bit pedantic and no large pour options. Even the bartenders said it was annoying…. We thought… pour a red… then chuck it in the water…pull it out of the dirty water and pour a sauv… back in the dirty water.., you get the idea.. just buy glasses with lines on them like every other pub in Newcastle these days. Unhygienic and gave us the heebie-jeebies. Food was good…. We had the beef cheeks, the rump and the chicken - I asked if it was boneless and was told they try to take the bones out, but lol it was half a chicken with all bones in tact…. So maybe staff need familiarising with the menu. My friend did want the boscaiola with prawns and squid added for a fee but the barman was unable to figure out how to do that so just said no. ...
