Bravo: An Experience That Left Much to Be Desired Our recent visit to Bravo with a group of six left us underwhelmed, finding the overall experience—from service to food quality—to be average at best. While two members of our party found their dishes acceptable, the consensus was that Bravo failed to deliver on the standards expected of an Italian dining establishment. Lukewarm Service and Abrasive Staff The service throughout the evening was notably unattentive. We frequently had to flag down staff, creating a sense that we were an afterthought rather than valued patrons. Compounding this issue was the demeanor of one employee: the lady with glasses taking orders at the bar was openly rude, which cast a significant shadow over the start of our meal. Good service is essential, and unfortunately, Bravo missed the mark here. The Food: Average at Best with Key Failures The first dish that came out, was incorrect. The main courses were disappointing, but the issues began with the entrèe. The arancini were surprisingly bland and required us to immediately add salt just to achieve some basic flavor. Overall, out of our group of six, only two diners thought their entire meal was good. The Traditional Spaghetti Carbonara was particularly problematic. Instead of egg and cheese married blend, the dish arrived hardly seasoned and tasted predominantly of raw egg. The consistency was fundamentally flawed, requiring an active effort to salvage it. We had to specifically request extra cheese to mix in, attempting to achieve a semblance of the traditional texture the dish should have possessed. The Gnocchi dish was only marginally better and ultimately average. While the rectangular gnocchi pieces themselves were well-made, the accompanying rosè sauce was excessively sweet, throwing the entire dish off balance and masking any potential fresh flavors. A Disappointing Finale Dessert did not improve the situation. The Tiramisu was below average and lacked the classic layering the dessert is known for. It contained only one layer of ladyfinger pastry, with the rest being an overly generous mix of cream and Mascarpone. The presentation was also poor, topped with a solid, unappetizing disc of hardened sugar. In summary, Bravo struggled to deliver quality food or attentive genuine service. With only two out of six diners enjoying their meals, it’s difficult to recommend...
Read moreI tried this place for lunch during it's opening week with friends, we were all excited to try a 'traditional' carbonara made with egg yolk, which is hard to find in Darwin.
I guess the mistake was all four of us ordering the same meal...it turned out to be bland, with tasteless pasta and complete lack of seasoning. Despite looking pretty, it was the heaps of grated parmesan we lathered on that made it edible.
Based on that experience I'd give it a 1 star (as would my companions), but I thought I should give it a second try a few weeks later.
Went there last night with my wife...very busy night despite the rain. She ordered the creamy carbonara instead of traditional (made with cream and fettucine instead of spagetti and egg yolk), while I got spagetti and mealballs. We ordered the mushroom arancini as a side.
Booking is now by QR code, which is just as well since the staff don't really roam around looking to take orders, only to deliver food or clear tables.
The entree was nice, good truffle essence and all around tasty arancini.
The mains arrived, and with trepidation I first tried a bit of my wife's carbonara...it was good! At least 5x better than the traditional carbonara we tried from a few weeks back. My spagetti and meatballs was nice, though the meatballs were fairly dry. I jazzed up my dish with the home made chilli sauce, which made it very enjoyable. Also kudos for provided a generous container of grated parmesan, which also enhanced the flavour.
I ordered two old fashions, which were well made cocktails.
The only disappointment is they don't have house limoncello, just a store-bought bottle.
To me they have redeemed themselves, and I'll go again. I might even try the traditional carbonara and see if they have...
Read moreBooked our table inside for 7. Place was fully booked so it was good we booked . On entering we were not greeted by anyone to be seated, went to the bar and told them about our booking and was pointed to our table. Seats were comfortable and they were quite busy, but noisy. We were advised by the waitress to either use the QR code or go to the bar to place an order. I decided to give the QR code a go for the first time, found this easy and convenient to pay straightaway. We had entee of garlic bread, bruschetta and arancini balls. These arrived pretty quick. Very tasty compared to other places I have been to in Darwin. If you like mushrooms the arancini balls are a must, very tasty. Our mains of lasagna, veal scalapinni, osso buco, linguine mussels, pizza, chicken carbonara and ravioli milano arrived. All came out hot, very tasty! The veal and osso buco were tender and enjoyable to eat. My husband had the mussels and there was heaps on the plate compared to 6 you would get at other venues. He said it was very tasty and the best he had and was impressed. The servings were big so we took our left overs home. It was a bit hot inside half way through our meal, like the air conditioner turned off. The wait staff were attentive with clearing the tables and bringing drinks to us as well as water. It was a lovely place to dine, price wise we found good all out meals were enjoying and delicious. We hope to try desserts next time. Yes we will...
