My husband and I are a fan of Korean cuisine. We discovered this restaurant through Google and Tik Tok today and decided to try as the food on the menu and pictures looked interesting. We were immediately greeted with a warm smile from the lovely waitress when we entered the restaurant. The restaurant has 30 seats, simple, neat, and clean. Our cutleries, bottle of water/cups and menu was served instantly. The waitress was very helpful as she explained the menu to us and gave us a few suggestions. We decided on the Osam Bulgogi and the Perila Oil Noodle. Osam Bulgogi was served with a bowl of rice, a bowl of seaweed soup and 7 small bowls of delicious side dishes: marinated hard boiled egg marinated with a special soya sauce, a slice of mackerel fish, rolled kimchi, a piece of raw marinated prawn, seaweed sheets, spinach salad ( Sigeumchi Namul) and Seasoned Acorn Jelly ( Dotori). Every side dish was perfectly made and placed neatly. You can tell from the vast experience of the chef who has created each dish with skill and passion. Each had a unique taste and you can taste several different flavours. We cleared every single bowl by placing some rice on some of the bowl and mixed the sauce to the rice. Was yummy! The Osam Bulgogi had a vibrant orangy red color, was very tasty and the sauce was generous. The Perila Oil Noodle was very refreshing and had a delightful taste. The temperature was just nice and perfect for summer! The noodle texture was cooked perfectly. Every mouthful was coated with Perila seed powder. It's a must try! 15 mins before closing, we were very pleased to see the Owner/Chef going around each table and chatted with his guests. He comes across as a humble person, sharing his culinary journey and his love of the beach and golf. He expressed how much he likes Perth and being new in town. Having 18 years of being a restaurateur in NSW, he is finally here to share with us his love of cooking. We wish him all the best for his first Korean restaurant in Perth and we will definitely be returning to support and experience another excellent and delicious meal. To the service staff, thank you and keep up the good work. It was a memorial pre New...
Read moreWe dined this afternoon at Charim Perth and we enjoyed the food, which was unique, flavourful, and different from other Korean restaurants. It's clear that the owner/chef is deeply passionate about his craft and cooking, and this dedication shines through in the dishes.
However, the table service fell short of expectations. Despite asking for a table for 5 people, we were seated at a 4-person table, making the setup cramped and uncomfortable. No assistance was offered to add an extra chair or tableware, and when asked, the response felt inattentive. My mother had to haul herself her own chair and the staff should've initially helped set up for the 5th person. Additionally, there was confusion with our order, such as missing rice.
The staff seemed confused and lost, giving the impression they didn’t want to be at work. I would have been more forgiving of the inattentiveness and forgetfulness if the restaurant had been busy, but we arrived just 10 minutes after opening, and it was far from crowded. This made the experience even more disappointing.
With a price point of $55 per person and spending $275 total, the overall experience didn’t feel worth it. The passion and message of the restaurant, which are evident in the food, unfortunately did not translate through the service. We left feeling unwelcome and uncomfortable, wishing we had experienced the same care at the table as we did in the kitchen. We hope the service improves to match the exceptional quality of the food, as the potential for a truly special dining experience...
Read moreI am Korean, and I visited this restaurant with my foreign friend for dinner. Unfortunately, the experience was quite disappointing for both of us.
The rice quality was very poor. It seemed like it had been kept in a warmer for too long, as the texture was tough and very dry.
The soup was bland. The chef mentioned adding perilla seed powder, but I couldn’t taste it at all. My friend also commented that the soups made by his Korean friends taste much better.
The main dish was overly sweet, which was not to our liking.
As for the kimchi, although it was homemade, it wasn’t good. It was neither properly fermented nor fresh, resulting in an odd and unpleasant taste. The seasoning didn’t blend well with the cabbage, and the chili powder left a lingering, uncomfortable sensation in my mouth until I brushed my teeth.
The other side dishes weren’t terrible, but it would be a stretch to call them good.
I noticed many reviews complaining about the price. Personally, it wasn't really matter for me because sometimes, I am willing to pay for a meal even if it doesn’t meet expectations, as long as there’s good atmosphere, service, or something special for my guests.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any reason to visit this...
