Not what it used to be!
Sadly Viet Hoa in William Street Northbridge has gone downhill harder than a morbidly obese 4 man bobsleigh team!
What was once a favoured destination for good food and fast service, has now settled comfortably into the realms of a place to avoid, and we will unlikely be returning here.
Where dinners would once happily queue for a table to sample authentic dishes on a busy night of dinner service, there are now plenty of open tables, (our first sign that things weren't right here). From there the night went from one disappointment to the next.
Despite not being at all busy, we watched the 4 or 5 servers gathered around the servery window, waiting for the occasional dish to be presented from the kitchen, or a few uber eats orders to come out. They also spent their time wrapping cutlery with napkins, or texting on their mobile phones.. Anything except coming back to the tables they had seated, to take an order! After waiting and gesturing for almost 15 minutes, I eventually got up and approached a staff member, requesting that somebody please come and take our order. This was not an isolated event, noting that other tables experienced the same lack of service during our visit that night.
We selected several "reliable" dishes from the menu, confirming with our server that we were sure to be getting what we understood to be what we were asking for.. When the order did arrive, it was almost as if we'd gotten up and gone to another restaurant.. Firstly questioning if it was intended for our table, or someone else. What was on the menu as a hofun with egg sauce, came out like a chow mein with wrong sauce, wrong noodles and wrong vegetables. When asked, the server replied with, "they put on whatever sauce they've got out the back"..! The Chinese tea for one came out as a tea for two. No big deal, until the server tried putting the overfilled pot down on the table and split much of its contents, requiring a hasty clean-up! Not to be outdone by that incident, the Raw Beef Pho soup, also joined its unfortunate predecessor, being tipped across the tabletop and requiring yet more cleaning up!
Dishes for the evening were not of great quality and more in keeping with those of a bad food truck or amature hawker centre. One of our party had the misfortune of needing the lavatory during their visit, and commented on that being one the dirtiest unclean toilets they had visited in a very long time! In all, a very disappointing end to what was once a delightful destination of culinary Asian fare, making Viet Hoa William Street, in need of a major overhaul, if not...
Read moreFirst time coming here. First thing I noticed was the lack of or even any customer service. We went into the restaurant and waited at the front desk as they had a “please wait to be seated” sign. There is at least three staff busy pealing off spring roll skins and having a great chat at the back table with their faces towards the door, none even bothered to acknowledge us waiting there. One staff walked right past us to another customer to check them out but still no words or gesture for someone else to help us out. Welp no biggie, we’ll help ourselves out. At least they bothered to take our order at our table.
The food was quick to come, I got my pho first and was given a pack of cutleries which included a pair of chopsticks, fork and spoon. Reasonably to think they are for a single person. My partner got his without cutlery. Asked the staff for a pair of chopsticks, she pointed towards the cutleries that were given to me at the start and I’m already using the chopsticks. The last time I remembered, the staff had mouths and was happily chit chatting to her co-workers. She doesn’t even have the decency to open her mouth to talk to us, not even when we were paying.
The food was okay. My partner had the shaking beef which $20 for a dish to be finished in 5min meant it was either mind-blowingly delicious or the portion was too small (it was both). The pho tasted like any other store but took too much advice from Uncle Rodger and left my mouth marinated in MSG for the next meal (thanks? I guess.)
I am absolutely pissed at the customer service we got. I understand if it was busy and they acted like this but it was 3 o’clock and the restaurant was basically empty. I wouldn’t be writing a whole essay if only the food was bad but making your customers feel like they owe you...
Read moreWhen I walked past this restaurant I was super excited to try it. I though it was going to be good because of the size of it. When I went in there was only 3 tables in use. The staff where fat to get my into my chair when I walked in however it was down hill from there, I asked for recommendations the waiter didn’t have a clue what to suggest! Didn’t even know a popular Vietnamese chicken ,tomato rice with fried egg. I ordered spring rolls and chicken and rice with fried egg. Well the spring rolls came out first with no pork inside when I asked the waiter are they pork they seem like veggie she said pork’s in there and walked away, My chicken came out with no fried egg. Then 10 mins later my egg came out when I had already finished most my meal! my friend ordered the rice paper rolls and basil chicken. I ordered avocado smoothie which I had to remind two different waiters about. Then on top of this bad experience you constantly here a lady talking to the kitchen on a microphone it’s loud and abrupt ,Awful won’t be back..they need to get it sorted!it was $78 for two people for lunch see photos. The soup was so sweet so much sugar. The waits brought out two dishes that was now our when I said there not ours she looked me dead in the eyes saying this is to her table. She stood there for few mins to another waiter came out and pointed to another tables! So...
