Tra Vinh has been in business for many years, and they stay in business for a simple reason: they are good! I have come here many times over the years so I will give a quick rundown on a few dishes and how they compare to others.
Beef Pho: Flavourful broth, beefy, umami, light, and fresh with herbs. You get all the trimmings (including beef balls and tripe). This was the best in Perth and is still one of the best, but there are other competitors now and you can get better Pho elsewhere.
Duck leg Pho: Tra Vinh set the standard and this is still excellent and unmatched anywhere else in Perth. Fall off the bone meat, soft skin, an intense flavourful broth flavoured with star anise and other spices and herbs, and fresh noodles.
Oxtail Pho: Also unmatched anywhere else in Perth. It's actually a different broth to the Beef Pho - more intense, more beefy, and more star anise. You get a dipping sauce with chilli and fermented tofu paste which really delivers a knockout punch.
Broken rice with pork: again, one of the best in Perth. The texture of the rice is perfect, the pork has a nice smoky char, and everything is as it should be.
Fried stuffed chicken wings: I would be repeating myself if I said that it's one of the best in Perth.
There are many menu items, and with every one of them it is one of the best, if not the best.
To all the people complaining about the service: this is a no frills restaurant. The whole point is to get in, get your food quickly, eat, and get out. It is cheap, incredibly tasty, and fast. The waiters are only there to take your order and deliver food, they are not there to smile at you and give you suggestions. So yes it can be a bit intimidating if you are unfamiliar with Vietnamese food because you have to know...
Read moreWe are regular customers of this restaurant and have been visiting the restaurant for six years. In the previous years me and my family were quite satisfied with the service and the food quality. However since last year, we were very disappointed to find the service attitude and the food quality became unsteady and dropped dramatically. This afternoon me and my family revisited this restaurant after the restriction placed by the government for three months. They now don’t serve hot tea for free anymore, which is OK. Then we ordered two serves of fry spring rolls, two paper rolled with prawns, two raw beef pho noodle soups, and two large fry rice. The total amount should be $59. When I intended to pay by my card, The cashier, who is a middle-age lady with mean and impatient attitude charged me $73. I tried to clarify the items I have ordered, but she seemed very reluctant and rushed to repeat the items I ordered with her poor English and said she would give me the receipt after I made the payment. The truth was that she changed general large fried rice into fried rice with diced beef, which resulted in the extra cost. We were in the beginning quite happy and embraced an expectation to revisit this restaurant after this shutdown period but it turned out to be a very disappointing experience. The taste of pho noodle soup and fried rice is quite different from before. The amount and size of sliced beef became smaller, plus the need-to-improve dining environment and terrible attitude from the female boss, we strongly recommend people consider other restaurants if they plan to dine in Northbridge. And of course, the name of this restaurant will be permanently removed from my...

Very Casual setting. Utensils and seasonings are on each table. --- 6.5/10 Service: very busy. Not always attentive. Placed the menu with 2-3 pcs serviettes on the table when to be seated. No tap water provided. No beverage menu provided. Ordered (a flask) hot tea, but not sure the cost of tea. Hot tea was free in the old days. Food served fast. --- 6.5/10 Hot tea have mild extra-flavor, like the water soaked dried longan previously. Food: normal presentation. Good value for such portion and traditional serving. Meet normal standard, not to expect very high quality. Basil leaves were not very fresh but ok partially. Bean sprouts and cabbage shred were ok. Sugar Cane Prawn Rice Paper Rolls, $9/serve (2 rolls): haven't seen sugar cane prawn for long. Only avail here in Perth. But no sugar cane came with the rolls, deep-fried spring roll sheet instead. Some peanuts in the dipping sauce were not crushed. --- 6.8/10 Mince Crab & Pork Vermicelli Soup, $14: There were 2 tofu puffs and 2 (well- cooked, silky) blood cubes, 1 pig's trotter (very tender), 2 pcs of Gio lua, 3ps pork and crabmeat.
