So I've been to WOW a bit over the years, I've eaten many dishes there, I've enjoyed sub par service in the past. But tonight and recently it's really hit a massive stride. From the moment we appeared we felt welcomed. Catered for and looked after. Wine recommendation totally on point, the wine poured for us was not something I'd pick for myself normally if i read it on a menu, but as it was described to us I couldn't help but try it, delightful and complementary to the snack I ordered.
1 snack, but what a snack. I've eaten razor clams, I've enjoyed eel, I have feasted on snails. Nothing prepared me for the Periwinkles with rich garlic sauce and hot chips. The sauce threw me all the way back to a classic country pub style chunky garlic dressing that could go on a steak , rich, almost overwhelming but in the best way. Pulling out a massive morsel of meat from the shell đ with an oyster fork brought giddy delight. I ran out of chips to soak up the rest of my sauce so thankfully had some bread on the side to get every schmear.
I want to go back tomorrow and have that same dish but I better keep it...
Read morewhy this place is rated so highly blows my mind. especially when you have Vincentâs a stones throw away: which far exceeds in atmosphere, food and general service. Went for the second time tonight with friends, we ordered pretty much everything on the menu, told the waitress we were all hungry and she helped us order what turns out would only be enough food to fill maybe 2 out of the 6 people present. when we tried to order more food (still obviously starving) we were brushed offâŚyes God forbid your kitchen is open past 8pm! Her attitude was arrogance masked as nonchalant humour. Shaving cheese onto a plate unaccompanied by crackers is not pretentious itâs pathetic. or serving anchiovy with nothing to soak up or accompany it is just laziness. We frequent many wine bars and love share plate style but iâm sorry i just donât get this place. Save your hard earned money and appetite for...
Read moreFlourishing within the front of house service and wine selection, Wines of While has some of the most lovely, attentive and passionate staff, always with an array of recommendations when in comes to a solo glass or a couple bottles.
However i feel like the food is its demise , as of recent times, with dishes being questionable small, annoyingly finding myself left wanting more within all aspects of it. I personally loved the chef residency's they had last year being a lovely reason for repeated visits and would recommend if they ever returned as they bring over some lovely talent.
I just feel that when going out to a restaurant, the goal should be to leave your customer feeling satisfied and i feel this no longer rings true with their current chef.
I would strongly recommend popping in for drinks at anytime but eat only when there's something that truely...
