Small, family-owned yakiniku restaurant. Other than the need to book a week in advance and smokiness of the grills (honestly how do you avoid this), there are no flaws.
Excellent service that matches the quality of food. Reasonably priced wagyu that deserves much more recognition!!
Many one star reviews here should be ignored - they are unhappy with fat on wagyu which immediately disqualifies them as being inept at judging food whatsoever.
Update 28/11: I almost never return to reduce ratings, but this has been a long time coming. Portion sizes over the past year has slowly dropped at least 25%. The short ribs have become significantly worse in taste, so much so that the skirt is constantly sold out. The green sauce has had an awfully bitter after taste in the last few months we have come. Service has dropped markedly - ever since the opening of their outlet. Rice is often mushy.
All in, it makes me very sad to have to say this about Sumiya Gin, but it is a shadow of it's past glory. Possibly focusing on their William St (bringing back the owners son) to ensure quality of service would be...
Read moreI love this place so much! Japanese bbq 🤤 I need to find out what they put in their cabbage salad because it is so damn good! And it has endless refills 😍 The A5 wagyu melts in your mouth like butter. The original pork belly slices are so delicious. The tempura prawns, karaage chicken, takoyaki, sauces all amazing. I don’t think I’ve tried anything here that I didn’t like! We don’t bother getting rice as it would probably fill you up too quickly but if you wanted to keep the bill on the cheaper side it would be a good idea.
Book well in advance for weekends! Parking can be tricky but we always seem to be lucky and get parking out the front, otherwise you should be able to find street parking down one of the...
Read moreI went to Sumiya Gin in Northbridge with my colleagues for a work celebration, and it turned out to be a great choice. It’s a BYO restaurant, which was really convenient. We ordered the beef tongue, beef, fried chicken, and rice – everything was absolutely delicious and well prepared.
The staff members were very friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. We sat near the entrance, and one thing to note is that the door didn’t close completely and stayed half-open most of the time. If you’re sensitive to the cold, I’d recommend sitting further inside for a more comfortable experience.
Overall, excellent food, great service, and a lively spot for a casual gathering. I’d happily...
