We attended Corner Pocket Bar & Grill for our mum's/nan's birthday. The table was booked for 10 people for 6:30pm. When ordering a couple of us were told, they were all out of the meals we were requesting. At 6:30pm, for a pre-booked table of 10 & a far from full restaurant, meals on the menu weren't available??? It was boiling hot. We asked for the air-conditioning to be turned on, but were told there wasn't any. Yet there were vents that suggested a cooling system? They also only had one of the bifold doors open - there was a beautiful breeze outside - could they not have opened all of the bifold doors to cool the room more? One family member ended up having to go outside to cool down at one point. I ordered gnocchi & while the flavours were nice, the so called gnocchi was like oven baked potato gems added as the poor cousin to substitute for gnocchi. I might accept this if I was paying $10 - $15 for a meal, but when you go to a restaurant & pay around $30 for a meal you expect gnocchi to be prepared on-site & look & taste like gnocchi. Two family members ordered vegan 'meals' that were each the size if entrees, as well as a side each. Given what they paid, this should have filled them up, however both of them bought take-away after leaving, as they were still hungry. Whilst we all ordered alcoholic beverages, we still expected to have water delivered to our table. As I mentioned we were all very hot & therefore sweating, yet had to ask for jugs of water & glasses. There was only one person out of 10 at the table who had no complaints about their meal. I could elaborate more than I have, however I'm sure you've got the general gist of our experience. Unfortunately we were unable to get into the extremely reputable & from previous experiences by all of us, many faultless dining occasions at Amici. It's only a matter of time before the substandard Corner Pocket Bar & Grill fails against such impressive competition just across the road. None of us will return. Caloundra is a small place & word of mouth is a very...
Read moreVery, very disappointing. Took days for them to get back to me to book in, I was advised the chef had quit however, they would have a new chef before our booking. We had 2 Groupon vouchers and booked meals a week apart. When we arrived the menu was like you would find at a café, with the exception of chicken schnitzel. Our entrees arrived, beautifully presented however, the fried ball entrée was frozen in the middle. They replaced it but we didn't eat it. Both entrees tased like something you would purchase from a grocery store frozen section. The Groupon deal showed steaks, pasta etc. however we were advised the chef had quit. I said that you advised me you had a new chef coming before our booking. The meals offered are nothing like the meals on the Groupon voucher. We took the chance with the other booking a week in advance. When we arrived we were advised that they were excited the new chef would be there next week and I advised that's what you told me when I booked in and when we were there the following week. The Corner Pocket Bar & Grill is being run by a nurse and cook from a nursing home. We were given information overload whilst we were trying to eat our meal about the troubles they have had with the restaurant. To use the amenities you need to walk up 17 stairs, make sure you ask for the key beforehand as it's locked. Cudos for taking on the venture in these troubled times however, we definitely...
Read moreWe booked (needn’t have bothered as the patron numbers were modest) an early dinner reservation hoping to catch a sunset water view. The male staff were cheerful and prompt in seating us and taking our meal and drinks (beer from the tap and a bottled beer) order. It took an unexpectedly long time for the simple drinks order to arrive at the table but nonetheless they did arrive. We specifically chose this restaurant as we both wanted a steak meal. The steak was disappointing and I left a quarter of its inedible gristle content on my plate. Lots of eating options (with views) in Caloundra so no need to return. After the hostile owner response to this review, I contacted Mal, and confirmed that our reservation was in fact recorded and our meals were both steak. He was able to verify that both of these facts were true and apologised and stated that he would remove his denial of our patronage on this Google review. A few days have now passed but no adjustment to his response. My review stands as an accurate reflection of our visit but now the aggressive language from Mal just reinforces our intention to dine elsewhere. As a footnote- on our settling of the dinner account they charged us for 7 bottles of beer and this took some effort to adjust the bill total back to the one bottle of beer and one beer off the tap! I’m of the view that this may not have been as accidental as we thought...
