Update in response to owner below: Thanks for your reply. I’m not sure what unconscious pigeon you are referring to as I didn’t witness this. Your remark on my review and consequent elaboration as “unfounded” is an interesting response that borders on gaslighting rather than acknowledging customer experience. I’m referring to the instance when staff verbalised and acted out karate chopping to “catch and bag” a pigeon (you note this was the manager) - you can check your CCTV for this ~11:30am-12pm, 19 May. Acting out abuse on an animal should not be glossed over.

Information on pigeon behaviour is very accessible and anyone can easily educate themselves. I’m sure ChatGPT could produce an effective toolkit for you :)

Original review: Felt uncomfortable with the bakery’s position on pigeons which bordered on animal abuse for me. Witnessing this made me turn from the bakery and I feel sick to return. The bakery has a responsibility to maintain hygiene and minimise pigeon entering however it shouldn’t require anyone having to “catch and bag a bird”. Pigeons are smart birds and have been villainised despite their long history of serving people and in wars. They can be easily trained such as not to enter a bakery. Otherwise I am sure there are other creative and kind humane methods of deterring birds from entering the doors with some simple research...

Hi everyone. I hope your having a great read here.

So here i am, I love Bourke street bakery. back in 2018 I would buy the potato and rosemary bread and my dad absolutely loved it. Recently my partner got me 2 sourdoughs. Olive oil and olives and rosemary and so I slice them into pieces and freeze them and I really enjoy these for breakfast each and everytime I miss him. I love to boast so much about to it to him that when he came over again i shared it with him and for someone that doesnt eat olives this was his first time enjoying the olive breads so i will always remember this and continue to come back... It's really the thought behind it that I appriciate and I will enjoy these knowing I feel loved so thank you to the bakery for always selling these exceptional pieces of breads that make me happy...

The flavours work so well and paired with different condiments it just satisfies the pallet so well and I love it.

P.s i also love the dark malt miche, the chew once it's toasted just makes my heart melt.

Also I have to say their pies are exceptional also. Well done and thank you for reminding how good it is to love food. ❤️

Bourke Street Bakery is a must-visit spot for anyone who appreciates high-quality baked goods and well-crafted coffee. The moment you step inside, you’re greeted by the inviting aroma of freshly baked pastries and expertly brewed coffee. Their pastries and bread are exceptional – the croissants are perfectly flaky, the tarts have just the right balance of sweetness, and their famous pork and fennel sausage roll is packed with flavor. If you’re a fan of sourdough, their loaves are some of the best in town – crusty on the outside, soft and airy inside. As for their coffee, it’s consistently smooth and well-balanced, with a rich aroma that complements their baked goods perfectly. Whether you prefer a classic flat white, a strong espresso, or a creamy cappuccino, they never disappoint. The staff is friendly, and the cozy atmosphere makes it a great spot to relax. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or sitting down for a leisurely breakfast, Bourke Street Bakery delivers a fantastic experience. Highly recommended!

Such a lovely cosy spot on the corner of a busy lively area. I ordered the bolognese cheese toasty which was quite generous in size and perfectly toasted. I appreciated that unlike many toasties, it wasn’t oily and heavy, and instead made you full without an uneasy feeling afterwards. What stood out to me was the service with both the people at the counter being friendly, warm and attentive. Especially when we were overlooking the ice creams (which were a great bargain and tasted amazing!) and one of the staff had helped in our selection without having to ask :) Also to note is that we had just come straight from a cafe that seemed uneasy with us dining in an hour prior to closing, (understandable! but why we left) however the staff here were accommodating and friendly right till we left 1/2 hour before closing, and that is very appreciated!! The interior is also very pretty and has you looking around. Would love to try the drinks and sweets next time :)
