Shortly after arriving in Sydney, we came to this small family-run restaurant for our first meal down under. I recommend coming early or at an off-peak time since I can imagine how tight the seating can get. There were a couple tables in the narrow hallway by the entrance and the space opens up to a larger area with more tables in the back. I admired the modest attributes of the restaurant - a box of Kleenex for napkins, sets of chopsticks and soup spoons in a cup on the table and their chili oil & sauces in small bottles at the ready.
We came here with a craving for noodles, but the menu is pretty vast with a variety of meat dishes, vegetables and dumplings as well. Every so often, we heard a loud thwack(!) in the kitchen and it took us a few moments to realize that was the sound of them making fresh hand-pulled noodles! It doesnât get more authentic than that!
STIR-FRIED NOODLES w/ CHICKEN ($14.80): These fresh thick noodles were soft with a perfect chew. They were completely coated in a thin brown sauce with cubes of tender chicken, some carrots and cabbage. A dab of their coarse chili oil gave it a nice heat and added flavor.
PORK & CABBAGE DUMPLINGS ($13.80): Despite being on the salty side, we enjoyed these steamed homemade pouches. The wrapper was pretty thin and each one contained a generous amount of filling. I didnât see the cabbage, but it must have been minced and mixed in the meat along with a bit of ginger. To my surprise, whether the kitchen intended for it or not, these were actually soup dumplings. I bit a corner off and some broth poured out!
SWEET & CRISPY SHREDDED BEEF ($24.80): So good! Very thin ribbons of beef were deep-fried and tossed in a sweet and slightly tangy glaze that gave it a sticky crispiness. The serving was massive and I couldnât stop eating it. The pieces werenât too meaty, so the beef flavor wasnât too prominent, but the sauce was super addicting!
BOK CHOY w/ SHIITAKE MUSHROOMS ($15.80): A simple plate of crunchy bok choy and sliced mushrooms sauteed in a garlicky sauce. Healthy and delicious!
The two employees we interacted with were very sweet and had a genuine warmth about them. Every plate was steaming hot so I could tell they rushed it straight from the stove to our table. With delicious homemade food at reasonable prices, Iâd call this a...

The restaurant is as original as it possibly could get. It even has laminex tables a fond memory...what a great find!
The food is great, and you can tell that the family creates wholesome authentic food. It is real value given the quality.
Warren and the chef, Mr Chen, always greet you with a welcoming smile. The food is served immediately, you never wait too long, even if it's busy
This is truly an iconic place, so if you want to step back in time, get excellent food at better than a reasonable price, give it a try!

Ordered both boiled, steamed and pan fried dumplings yet they used the same thick wrapper for all three dishes which is not right at all, and it resulted in very inconsistent quality - some overcooked, some undercooked despite the decent seasoning.
The lamb noodle has the same consistency problem, where the soup base and meat is good but the thick noodle is the worst Iâve ever had, not chewy at all and soggy like a hell.
Then itâs the ambience. I know itâs small but at least it shouldnât be feeling like crowded and messy and not cleaned enough.
Finally the service feels disorganised. The server and the chef were even yelling at each other due to missed ordering or something.
Very unpleasant dinning experience overall for a...
