Omakase review It pains me to say this, but Chowon is the worst omakase I've been to. There is not a single good thing I nor my brother could say about this place.
TLDR: Food was mid, service was non-existent, atmosphere was unmemorable and overall, not worth $220pp.
Service: We booked for 5pm and like every other reservation, arrived 15 minutes early. The restaurant was still closed and doors were shut. At 4:50, we knocked on the door and was told by the staff that we are still early and we need to wait outside - that she will call us when it's time. This is already highly unprofessional and an absolute disgrace to any restaurant that charges $200+ pp. At 5pm, no one called us in despite the same staff member walking by us countless times. 10 minutes later, without anyone calling us, we went up and asked again and was moved to a shoe-box like room. We were told "Take a seat" without any assitance or showing us where. No a single greeting or table service by that staff member. When we sat down, we were greeted by the chef (the only chef and staff inside the shoe box). Omakase review It pains me to say this, but Chowon is the worst omakase I've been to. When we sat down, we were greeted by the chef (the only chef and staff inside the shoe box). Not blaming the chef but the service itself was poor. The chef had to do everything himself, from cooking, giving table water to collecting plates, taking drink orders etc. Understandable the chef had a lot on his plate but it's inexcusable for the price. Even simple things were not available like table cloth, constant refills of table water (had to ask everytime), reissuing of utensils, etc. Overall, 1/10 for service. There was not a single good thing I could say
Food: For $220 pp, you'd expect great food and a memorable experience. Nope, everything was average at best and that's being lenient. Entrees was unappealing and inconsistent. Mains were unseasoned. Post main was a cop out, giving you a bowl of rice to fill you up. Desserts were uninspiring. Most of the dishes were prepared beforehand and there was no display of chef skills despite being an omakase. Also, there are no cocktail or bar drinks. Drinks were taken from the bbq place and marked up. At best, food was 2/10. Nothing memorable and cannot recall any good dishes.
Atmosphere: "A shoebox" - my brother accurately describes the atmosphere. The room was overwhelmed by the sound of the rangehood as we were stuffed inside an uncomfortable and unappealing room. The room seated 8 people yet during our booking, there was only 2 other guests yet we were seated shoulder to shoulder. Taking inspiration from Hong Kong's apartments, 1/10.
Worth it? Hell no. This is the worst $220pp I've spent. Save your money and go somewhere that respects you as a patron and gives you a memorable experience. Do not trust any influencer that recommends this place (as my brother had blindly trusted), most...
Read moreI spent $470 (including drinks) with 2 seats of Wagyu Omakase.
First dish was fresh oyster, ocean trout, Wagyu and fried eggplant. It was so good. 9/10 (1 point less because no Uni on the top of eggplant as ads)
Japanese stream egg with crab meat and salmon caviar. One of simple dishes that you could find in Omakase. However, the taste was normal 6/10 (No black truffle on the top as ads)
Kind of pear or fig with miso on top 2/10
Wagyu croquettes with tomato puree. It does not taste Wagyu and it’s not satisfied 2/10
Black truffle risotto with fish and salmon caviar. The rice was overcooked for me. It feel like congee not risotto but fish was so good 6/10
Puff with Wagyu pate filled serve with pumpkin puree, Pear and Prosciutto 4/10 (really really cold pumpkin puree and Pate puff taste like sausage roll you could buy at Coles)
Wagyu yukke with Wasabi leaf. It was better than my expected 8/10
Wagyu shabu It was so good with quality of meat 9/10
Wagyu skewers, beef tongue and grilled zucchini. It was good because of the quality of meat 9/10
Last dish was dessert. It was 2 pieces of candied pear yes fruit again 1/10
Overall 4/10 regarding to the price almost $200 per person for Omakase. It’s completely overpriced. So many fruit dishes in Wagyu Omakase?
Chef was so cool and funny that’s the reason why I give 5 star services.
I give the feedback with honest reason. Hope the feedback could improve...
Read moreChowon Wagyu Korean BBQ & Omakase offers an impressive culinary experience with its high-quality wagyu beef and expertly prepared omakase dishes. The ambiance is inviting, featuring sleek modern decor that complements the sophisticated dining experience.
The wagyu beef is the star of the show, tender and flavorful, they present this not only with scotch fillet steaks but high quality produce even down to the wagyu salad while presenting a variety of meticulously crafted dishes that showcase the chef’s skill and creativity.
However, the service leaves much to be desired. During my visit, the staff seemed overwhelmed and inattentive. Despite the restaurant not being at full capacity, there were significant delays between courses, and getting the attention of the waitstaff was a challenge. Basic requests, such as asking for rice or water and providing additional condiments, were often forgotten or delayed.
In summary, while Chowon Wagyu Korean BBQ & Omakase excels in food quality and presentation, the service needs substantial improvement to match the high standards set by the kitchen. Investing in staff training and ensuring better coordination would greatly enhance the overall...
