Accommodation, top floor. Six nights. First off I really wanted to give five stars because affordable character accommodation is becoming so hard to find. So while there is heaps of character and it is cheap...my stay could have been better!

My room was nice. Large and filled with light from two big windows (which due to the style of window, let in all the street noise too)I had ear plugs so not a problem for me. Lots of storage, a comfy but weirdly low bed, a disintegrating antique leather chair, a side table, bed side lamps, TV, fridge, heater, and a very vigorous wall fan. Carpet was stained in several places, but overall room did appear clean and fresh. Adjacent to my room is a communal dinning area and bathroom (with a broken washing machine)

Check in was friendly but minimal, with no info about facilities, or the neighborhood, or even what entertainment or food specials were on at the bar downstairs. No info in the room either. Room was not serviced at all during my six night stay. Which I'm okay with. Though having a fresh set of towels and bedding at least once would have been appropriate!

Cleaning as mentioned the room was not serviced during my stay. I left my rubbish bin bag, once full, outside my door as instructed. It was still there the next day. Bathroom, shower had not seen a deep clean in sometime. And I don't think the bathroom was cleaned during my stay as the same long black hairs remained on the floor!

Location is great, walking distance to many of Sydney's finest attractions. Plus, close to public transport.

Also there were nice details, like board games, and historic books and magazines in the antique furniture in the common areas. There was tea, coffee and water available in the common areas, and milk was supplied in the room fridge. Body wash, shampoo and conditioner and hand wash supplied.

As a single traveller would I stay here again? Probably, but please up the cleaning...

Absolutely brilliant old fashion pub, Callum the bartender was extremely helpful, kind, and funny after a gloriously shite day that was topped by a flight cancellation and awful medical news. He went above and beyond to ensure the kitchen got my order which deviated from the menu slightly.

The ambience was eccentric, warm, and cosy. Very comfy chairs in the back and it was hard to select where to sit as everywhere looked so cool!

The food was SUBLIME! Quite literally. I'm gluten intolerant so eat alot of steaks (or Thai) when travelling. The sirloin paired with the mash, just, and roasted broccoli was absolutely divine. The chef threw in some crispy AF perfectly roasted potatoes too which was just generous. And the steak was requested rare, and it was slightly blue and glorious. Perfectly cooked, tender, succulent, juicy, and beautifully seasoned. Any other sauce than the bus would have ruined it in my opinion it was that good. Pairing it with Laphroaig was the second best decision I made that day (the first being eating at East Sydney Hotel of course!).

I got another steak at a pub elsewhere in Sydney near Lil Darlin' and it was a struggle to eat. I didn't finish it.

Bathrooms were clean and tidy!

So come on down to the genteel, quirky, warm welcoming local pub with the best food and...

I recently visited this pub ahead of the recent Mardi Gras celebrations, we were served by Connell who I must say is an asset to the pub, he is a great conversationalist, from the moment we walked in he made us feel welcome, and engaged in conversation with us, in fact despite our intentions of only staying for 1 drink we ended up staying for several and for food which was also amazing.

The pub stands true to its history and hasn't got any gambling facilities which I now understand to be a key feature in almost every pub in Australia, it's got a Irish vintage aesthetic to the decoration. Great choice of spirits even a Courvosior

The pub and the service we received made for such a great experience as a first timer visitor to Australia, thanks to Connell (hope I've got name right couldn't remember if it was connell or Donnell....defo one too many had lol 😂🤣)

We were also made welcome by some other local residents who we sat with for a period of time learning more about Australian culture, was a thoroughly enjoyable few hours spent, thanks to all involved would definitely...

We swung in here just for a few drinks, and it met those needs just fine. I discovered, to my absolute delight, that on Saturday's they have $1 oysters. Sadly we ordered the last dozen, otherwise I would have ordered several thousand. The staff are super friendly, which was nice. The bar has an impressive selection of games (UNO, Chess, etc). We bashed out a massive game of UNO next to the pool table. Look, you can use this place for a beer as you figure out where to go next. But if you're looking for a longer term drinking session, you'll want somewhere else, it can feel a little uninteresting after a while.

Excellent Sunday roast venue that won’t disappoint. The East Sydney Hotel was the fourth hotel in our Sunday roast audit / crawl. Down on the Wooloomooloo side over William Street, this historic hotel was well placed in the sun on this winter’s day. Very friendly and efficient staff who took payment for our roasts and beer. Yes, I’m still hooked on Guinness - love it. Beef brisket was the roast of the week. There was pumpkin and beetroot also. The gravy was special - had a mustard added. Final product was a very good roast if it’s sunny and you’re in the area. Enjoy !
