Unfortunately Regents Place location has gone downhill. Way downhill. I used to be so impressed by this establishment in terms of seafood quality and presentation, variety and standards. I placed it many levels above the many franchise sushi trains you see around Sydney, however, now I don't see them as having any special distinction.

My previous visit a few months back as well as today's visit has well and truly cemented the fact that I won't be back. I actually didn't even want to go eat here today based on the previous experience but it was my friend's suggestion. My friend and I both agreed for sure now that the standards have fallen dramatically.

The vibe from the people who hand you your food (the people in the kitchen) has always been somewhat impatient and passive aggressive as if to suggest their attitude is "hurry up and take it, you fool." The saving grace was always the quality and standard of the food and what felt like more of a touch of Japanese authenticity.

Today however, I found dust particles on many nigiri pieces (rice and fish) which I had to pick off before eating. This obviously is unappetising. I even saw dust particles in the cup of water that they had pre-filled for people to take before being seated.

The 2x relatively expensive miso soup we ordered had salmon fish pieces in my friend's soup and none in mine, though they were handed to us by the same person at the same time. Shouldn't it be consistent? I'm sitting there thinking why my friend got three pieces of salmon (on the bone) and I got none. Does the person ladling the soup use common sense?

The experience just feels "off" now. We paid just over $100 for two people and left feeling disappointed, still hungry and like we'd been robbed.

This is another business that unfortunately has fallen into the trap of complacency. Could be new management, who knows?

It's ironic that they used to have a discount for paying in cash when the food standard was much higher and have now got rid of it but the standards...

Edomae Sushi Yokocho is the kind of CBD spot that wins you over by doing the simple things immaculately. Slip in off George Street and you are met by a compact room, a neat sushi counter, and the clean, toasty scent of fresh nori. Service is quick to greet without hovering, which makes it just as comfortable for a solo perch at the bar as it is for a small group grabbing dinner after work.

Fish quality speaks for itself. The nigiri set landed with a gentle shine on the cuts and that telltale brush of soy already applied, so there is no dunking required. Tuna was silky, salmon buttery without excess fat, and the kingfish had that subtle crunch you only get when it is truly fresh. Scallop was sweet and cool against warm rice, and the tamago finished things with a soft custard bounce. Rice is the quiet hero here. The grains stay distinct, seasoning leans balanced rather than sharp, and the temperature sits right in the pocket so the neta does the talking.

From the sides, a hand roll wrapped to order keeps its snap, and miso arrives piping hot with a proper umami backbone. If you are hungry, a chirashi bowl is generous with no filler, and the tempura comes pale and crisp instead of heavy. Drinks skew sensible, with cold beer, a couple of sakes, and roasted green tea that pairs neatly with richer bites. Prices feel fair for the quality, and lunch sets look like a smart way to cover ground quickly.

Turnaround is efficient without feeling rushed. Staff notice when tea needs topping, happily point out daily specials, and handle small requests with a smile. If you want straight up, well executed sushi in the middle of the city, this place delivers exactly that, and does it with...

The Worst Sushi Restaurant Experience Ever

I visited here at around 5 pm on the 28th. The food was ok, but my bf found a small tiny stone while eating sushi, the flying fish roe kungan maki sushi. We talked about it to one of the waitresses and she called the chef. And he just told us it's just a shellfish. The chef should have asked him where he found the little piece of stone and apologized to him. That's the first and the most important step. But he didn't take our complaint seriously with responsibility as a chef, and he didn't apologize to him at all. Then he went back to make sushi and kept talking about us with another female worker next to him. I clearly heard him saying "shellfish" in English and laughing with her. Also, even if it was a shellfish, it shouldn't have been inside the sushi, and the chef should have apologized. We lost our appetite, and when we were leaving, he pointed at us with his thumb and talked about us with the female worker again in Japnese as if we were not there. I definitely could know they were talking about us even though they were speaking Japanese. This sushi restaurant was my first sushi restaurant in my life, and I visited here again with the previous memory. However, unfortunately, I was greatly disappointed by this experience. I hope my review is helpful to inform the chef what customer service is and to train him...

Dayuuuum! Diz sushi place iz on the next level! You've probably tasted several other sushi place and only to be served similar kind of sushi menu. Well... Not this one, folks! This sushi restaurant is particularly different as they're actually serving many choices that are traditionally authentic edo period style. None of those fusion style californian roll or dragon roll with too much mayonnaise on the sushi. Not that hate those fancy rolls but I just felt 'rick-rolled' sometimes because those aren't authentic bunch of sushi. If you love sushi but would love to explore more of what sushi encyclopedia has to offer, go and try this restaurant. The pricing is reasonable too. For $3.80 most of the plates, no confusion on the variable plate pricing which translate to you feeling the Zen knowing how much you end up spending. What really caught my attention was also the sushi display as you travel down the escalator. It's simply amazing and definitely made me want to try the sushi. I wonder if they sell those sushi display as souvenir or maybe spend $30 and get 1 sushi toy. Would be nice... I'm definitely coming back to try all the sushi varieties in here. I've got my checklist ready for which sushi I'm going to order in my next visit.

I loved this placed. A slice of Japan in Sydney. I have not yet been to Japan or a sushi train therein - next year! - but my oh my this sushi train transported me there: the food, the vibe, the under-table bag hooks and touchscreen menu and ordering tvs... My mate got sashimi and crumbed, grilled cheese sticks. I felt like karaage octopus. There was sashimi octopus. The Japanese lady sitting next to me on my left was talking with two tourist ladies on her left - explaining about food. While we ate people were coming down the escaltor as the sushi train plates smoothly flowed by. It was all very poetic and lovely. We did have to wait but the system the concierge has is very good. And while we were eating, a waitress asked if we intended to order more for indeed the kitchen and our timeslot were closing. I did not take it as a hurry-up at all.
