Unfairly, for me any taco establishment in Sydney will always be rated against Contrabando (pre covid). Taco Tuesday. Service was attentive, warm and super friendly. Atmosphere and vibe was cute and buzzy. Odd decore. Entrance and seating was a wee bit snug for larger folk. Ordered Coconut margaritas and Tropical Pina which were very nice. Starters, we ordered Tostada de ceviche and the Elote (grilled corn with Mayo and cheese) were amazing. Taco options beef, pork belly, mushroom, chorizo/potato and frijole didn't hit the mark. Lacked a fish, Al pastor or carne asada option. Beef brisket was the winner but not a hard choice as the crispy pork belly had no crackling and strangely tasted nothing like pork belly and the chorizo/potato looked and tasted like the pork belly so not sure we got anything different. They were of a good size filling but oddly bland which was surprising sad. Ended up ordering another round of starters cos they were awesome. Taco Tuesday sounds like a budget friendly night but ended slightly more expensive than expected. Not a complaint as such is life. Eftpos machine awkwardly prompts tip option, always a turn off. Over all winners were the staff and starters but the tacos themselves left me longing for pre covid contrabando once again. First and unlikely to return I'm sorry to say. Wish I could've given more than 3 stars but average was accurate unfortunately. I wish them luck and good fortune still.

This place has really gone down hill from last time I visited, sat at an almost empty restaurant just after 8pm and left unattended for a while whilst there were no waiters to be seen, we had to ask for water and the guy brought the bottle with no glasses, we had to ask for those. Tasteless guacamole was eventually served and when we asked for salt and pepper it never arrived, we again had to get up and ask for it, also help ourselves to napkins and cutlery because the waiter missed basic table set up. We had to grab the waiters attention to order our starter which they were all just chatting behind the bar, no serving any of the few tables they had or all the dirty ones that had left, eventually when the starter arrived and we wanted to order mains the waiter said the kitchen is closed, with no last order warning which would be the decent thing to do, but I guess they didn’t care because our table never got a follow up after drinks or served starters. We asked for the bill after the disaster of a night this was, just to realise the hygiene of this place it’s pretty disgusting, cockroaches running up and down the walls and floors, when alerted to the waiter he responded, Yes I know!. We felt so sick that we had eaten and sitting at that place, thankfully it was only a starter and safe to say we will never be back or have anything nice to say about this place.

It's kinda like we are seppo republicans in 2015...all of a sudden we realise Mexico is an opportunity. For them, it was an opportunity for their Pauline Hanson "we're being invaded by Asians (c2000) or Muslims (c2014)". If Sydney is being invaded by any countries cuisine, Mexican is at the front of the border (apologies, I couldn't resist). For the most part, the food coming in is irrelevant price and authenticity wise. We even had raw carrot on a taco at a place run by a mexican and Columbian. Most charge prices that could feed a family for a week in Texas, or a month in a Mexican village. One of the first, el loco, is merivales take, and like most of their swings at it, is pretty tasty and not too offensive. La farmacia is probably the best you'll get in Sydney at the moment. The tacos are really what this place is all about. Only the cerviche disappoints. The rest of the menu and cocktails hit the mark. The service is friendly as a kid selling gun by the side of the road in tasco in 1972 (true srory). Overall, this place is very on trend right now. If it continues to develop, its likely to mature into quite an asset, and hopefully raise the authenticity standards Sydney wide.

Came again for Taco Tuesday after a great experience last week. Came at 9pm and asked for a table inside, which the guy at the door said they didn't have, and sat us on stools outside, fair enough as I didn’t reserve. Saw few people leaving and asked if we could have our food inside as stools were uncomfortable, the guy replied implying it was a problem as they were closing in 30 minutes and that he would let us know if there was something available, never came back for us even we saw empty tables inside when going to the toilet, he was just lazy to organise something for us it seems. Food came and we did not get any water, napkins or cutleries, and grab anyones attention was hard. Then we had an issue with our order where kitchen missed 3 tacos each, and had to go inside and follow it up because no one was coming outside, even all tables outside were left dirty with plates and glasses on, pretty bad look. The waiter re printed the order but didn't even bother to follow it up, and I had to come back inside after 20 minutes for a refund cause we never got them. He couldn’t even do the refund properly as it went to my brother’s card while I was the one after it, but again he didn't even bother asking, just complete incompetence. It was also not great to hear the guy talking to other staff in spanish and making racist comments about another table next to us, he's so unaware of whats going on that probably didn't realise people around do speak spanish on a taco place, a very bad look also. Pretty dissapointing after being looked after another guy from Guadalajara last week who was awesome. Not sure I will be back ever even the food was great again. I had to come back and ask for the name of the guy, Andres, as I hope the people who owns this venue realise the harm that having staff like him will do to them on...

Celebrated my partner’s birthday at the venue and it was fantastic. The waitstaff were fantastic and attentive and drinks free-flowing during the bottomless brunch. The food was delicious as well, very authentic and the perfect amount to balance the drinks. In all, a fantastic dining experience.

The only reason I could not review higher is because of an incident later in the day. Unfortunately we had left a gift for my partner at the venue, and since the restaurant doesn’t have a phone number, we were unable to call and ended up walking all the way back to the restaurant 2 hours later to ask if they had the gift. We were approached by the ‘manager’ who was extremely abrasive and rude. As soon as we asked if they could check, they said they throw any belongings out despite the fact that they have a ‘lost property area.’ We explained that we would appreciate that they even try to look as we had just spent over $900 there, and he was extremely rude. He told us that we should have emailed and that it would be deep in the bin by now and to forget about them. I asked for the details of the owner, to which he rudely responded that he was overseas and handed me his card without any further information. We asked to speak with the waitstaff we met during our booking and he told us we couldn’t. We expressed our disappointment and he told us that it wasn’t his problem. Extremely unfortunate the management was so poor, as the waitstaff were so lovely earlier. On merit we will not dine here again based on how rude management was - and beware not to leave anything behind as they will not...
