A very disappointing experience.
The waitress was only there for 3 days and therefore didn't know exactly what the food was which was understandable.
What wasn't acceptable is the fact that the chef apparently forgot to cook out mains, after us being their for about 1 ½ hours.
We decided that we would leave, but the waitress went to see the manager (I think he might have been the owner), and then returned to advise that they would offer us complimentary desserts.
Given we had already spent 1 ½ hours there, getting through a main and desserts was very unlikely to happen, therefore we suggested that they replace that with a complimentary bottle of wine given the wine we had order to have with the main had been drunk due to the extended wait.
While this appeared quite a logical solution, the manager advised the waitress that they wouldn't be offering this, therefore we decided to leave. All the time, the manager decided that it was better to be cowardly and hide behind a poor waitress that only be there for 3 days rather than coming to try and sort this out directly. And, I might add, it was the owner that was very quick to take our order for the wine in the first place.
Upon leaving, one of my guests found the manager, who again, simply pushed back and didn't want to have anything to do with it. My guest advised that we would be writing a less than favourable review due to his arrogant behaviour, hence what you...
Read moreMy daughter's 21st birthday called for a special celebration, and my daughter requested De Vine Food & Wine for a family dinner to mark the occasion. Right from the beginning, Anthony and his team impressed us with their attentiveness and flexibility. They graciously accommodated our requests, including assisting us with her birthday cake being delivered directly to the restaurant and allowing us to bring our own table decorations. Even when we had a last-minute additional guest attending to our table, they handled it seamlessly.
As soon as we arrived, Anthony greeted us warmly, immediately recognising our party and inquiring about the birthday girl. He seated us in a spot where we could fully enjoy the evening, ensuring our comfort throughout. The entire staff was incredibly friendly, but our waitress, Catriona, truly went above and beyond to make sure my daughter's night was unforgettable. The moment when the team came out to sing Happy Birthday added to the number of highlights of the evening.
Both Catriona and Anthony were patient and accommodating when I rearranged things to capture photos, never once making us feel rushed. Their genuine kindness and willingness to make our experience special did not go unnoticed.
Overall, it was an evening that my daughter will cherish for years to come. I highly recommend De Vine Food & Wine for anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion over a delicious meal and...
Read moreI've been to De Vine Food and Wine a few times over the years. It has always been a lovely experience where such attention has been paid to every element of the service, food, ambience and wine. Some of the most beautiful wines I have tasted have been here. Last night was no exception.
Furlani Bianco Macerato, a 100% pinot grigio was clean and pure. The black barley risotto was something I would eat daily, so flavoursome and filling in the most authentic way. The potato foccacia was just delicious, although for vegans they should know it has caviar on the side (which was delicious). The wild rocket and pear salad was SO good and perfectly balanced between the sweet and peppery.
My only disappointment was to see that the dessert tasting plate no longer existed and as if to compound this mammoth disaster (as I'm definitely a dessert person) the desserts we ordered (semi freddo & panna cotta) were mundane and dissappointing. The semi freddo was not semi frozen, but was more like a moose that was OK at best. The panna cotta would have been at home next to a supermarket dairy dessert. SO disappointed. Presented in bowls with very little effort or imagination. It just seemed lazy, which would have been passable if they were amazing.
Definitely a beautiful little bar and restaurant that is a Sydney treasure. Hopefully next time I visit the desserts will again not just be an...
