Miso Japanese Teishoku Restaurant - Worth the wait?

Part of the Masuya Group, Miso has appeared right by the Green Square station appealing to neighbouring residents and on-my-way-home-from-work-too-tired-to-cook community.

Highlights: The Sashimi and Sushi collection. For the sashimi, it was fresh and as it was nestled above a bed of ice, highlighting the clean and crisp taste of the fish.

Review: It’s hard to say the least how I felt of my experience here as it involves a bunch of mixed feelings due to the polarising factors of good service mixed with a long wait time (45 minutes from order to food) which reflected on the food.

Sashimi and Tonkatsu Pork Set - $27.50 As you know, the Sashimi as part of the set was the highlight however I was saddened to see that my Tonkatsu Pork did not have the same treatment. The pork, albeit slightly overcooked was still enjoyable however it appears, that due to the pressure at seating capacity, I could not tell if the pork was battered with Panko Breadcrumbs or just Plain Breadcrumbs, it was not as flaky as one would to expect. The salad in itself was simply dressed with a tangy mayo mustard dressing and crispy fresh.

Nigiri Sushi and Ginger Pork Set - $25.50 Similar to the Sashimi, the Nigiri Sushi was not a let down and it was thoroughly enjoyable, the rice was done well, sweet and savoury where you can enjoy the textures of each grain. Once again, the cooked items were a let down where the pork was slightly overcooked but the sauce has a subtle hint of ginger which were balanced by it own soy sauce.

Tip:
If you were interested in dining for dinner, I would recommend to come before 5:30pm or after 8pm, especially on a weekend.

Decent food but was paired with not a great service experience. Would rate 2.5/5 overall.

Food Quality: Food was okay at best. The curry is rich and full of flavour, but our rice, curry and meat weren't exactly hot, just warm enough to eat decently. The Udon was nice but the pork katsu particularly was dry and lacklustre. Overall okay but the pricing doesn't help.

Service and Experience: First of all, we couldn't take the tables outside since they weren't serving them, but had 4 out (presumably just for display?) and seemed to be quite overwhelmed with customers. And, a waiter new to their job forgot to send our order to the kitchen, which would be fine except that afterwards, we had to wait much longer after being told the manager would "prioritise" our order (whilst we watched many other orders being served). This would all be okay if they had communicated to us and acted on their mistake, but it seems they weren't concerned until we started to get up and consider other restaurants. At least they lowered the price of the bill in the end, but again, communicating this earlier eases us from wanting to leave.

If you don't mind the wait (looked like 30 minutes for most), not the worst food but I hope they learn from...

Miso at Zetland is an exciting Japanese restaurant that offers well over 30 types of bentos. There’s a meal for everyone, from meats, curries, seafood and vegetarian.

Their deep fried pork tonkatsu is cooked to perfection and tastes absolutely delicious, which is included in most of their bento sets. The size of the bentos were quite generous for under $30, however the ones above $30 felt quite expensive. Each dish is served exactly like the photos in the menu and presented beautifully.

The restaurant interior feels warm & cosy. The decor has a Japanese presence with bamboo ceilings and wood like columns.

Miso can be a very busy & packed restaurant, but it all depends on the time you arrive. We walked in around 1:40pm, waited for 2 minutes to be seated, the restaurant was still full at the time. Last orders are taken at 2pm and then a staff member comes around with an eftpos machine and starts taking the bill. Even though the restaurant closing time is 2pm, they still happily let people stay in and finish their meals.

Miso is a great place dine individually or with a group of people. It offers variety and delicious...

I've loved Miso CBD since the first time I tried it. Their generous portion of deliciously fried juicy pork loins made me remember tonkatsu meals I had in my trips to Japan. So when I found they opened a branch in Green Square, I was delighted to try. I would say this branch has become my favourite Miso - it has a great, peaceful ambience, friendly and very accommodating service, and the whole vibe does make you feel like you're eating in a restaurant in Japan. My favourite go-to is the Pork Loin set ($19.80). But if you come during lunch time, you should try their lunch specials too. They are very good value for its price - it comes with a drink, tonjiru miso soup, karaage, croquette or sashimi slices depending on season. If you love teishoku (Japanese set menu) and deep fried crumbed pork, you should try Miso Green Square.
