Oporto - Marrickville — Restaurant in Sydney

Oporto is about the only fast food chain restaurant I voluntarily patronise. This review is based on some sixteen or more visits over the span of a couple of years.

I wanted this relationship to work. I know how good Oporto can be. The customer service here has always been genuine. I have never experienced rudeness or hostility nor have I experienced the super painful fake smile customer service that gives me the shudders. However, I have experienced undercooked chips. Undercooked chips that underfill the chip containment bag. In fact I received undercooked chips so consistently that I stopped ordering them altogether and just stuck to ordering the boigers. Getting chips right seems straightforward to me. Wait until the oil has reached the correct temperature then drench the chips for the prescribed amount of time. The boiger fillets were mostly dry with not enough sauce to balance this lack of succulence. On occasion they did meet a baseline standard of taste. The fillets were either being overcooked or not enough oil was being used during the cooking process.

I continued returning to this abusive relationship well after I knew it was wrong to do so. I would find myself hungry late at night, craving the memory of my time with Oporto all those years ago as a young man. A time when life was carefree and without worry. A time when inflation hadn't simultaneously shrunk my chicken fillets whilst at the same time charging me twice the price. It was this fantasy I wanted to believe in that would see me come walking through the door late at night. Wanting to believe that this time it would be different. This time Oporto would reflect the love that I faithfully kept showing it. It was not to be. Another dry burger that the cynic in me thought was punishment for not ordering a combo meal or purchasing a drink. Choke on that dry burger you miserly penny pincher. Why didn't you pay extra for some uncooked chips and some bottled water you could otherwise get for free from your own faucet? You're diminishing our profit margins, you...

We just ordered a meal that arrived without 2 sauces. I rang and spoke to a manager who said he'd ring me back in 2 minutes, which he never did. Not only that but after waiting 10 minutes for a call, I decided to ring them but they no longer picked up the phone! I called from 2 different numbers at least 4 times and they left the phone ringing!

I have reported them to head office but this is what I want to know: what kind of a place is this where you treat your customers with such disdain? An absolute disgrace. You call when you say you will call and fix up the mess, you made NOT ignore the customer.

It may only be a couple of sauces for churros but you missed packing them and the churros was not enjoyable without them! No sorry, no apologies, of any kind, only silence.

A rubbish place for the way their treat customers and I shan't be back. Marrickville OPORTO franchise owner, you must train your managers in customer service! If you can't replace something, if you made a mistake, own up to it. Call the customer. Apologise.

Oh and the chips in particular, are so often awful, undercooked, unsalted. We have been here many times over the years. Never had such bad experiences since some unsmiling, uncaring, managers have...
