Those social media posts are people validating their expensive experience, I fell for them. Admittedly. So one star for that. Second star because I did eat the food.
And I paid a public surcharge so ouch not worth it.
Maybe the South have had their share of competition and have been the immigrating and adapting their style of cooking w the local produce. Don’t know but my review is going to be nothing short of amazing.
It wasn’t busy. It was order before you seat and paced out because it’s for the hype. The “Hanoi Pho” line hype.
Here’s my review - straight speak :
Pho broth is like a Chicken broth with loads of sugar- doesn’t even appear to have been cooked for long when it should have stood out in Hanoi style- loads and I mean loads. Most pointed out in the lower reviews too. Wasn’t hot enough at all. Just really bland.
The “shards” of beef in the Red Wine Beef (tomato) is shockingly probably the cheapest cut of beef ever. It was probably sliced off bone bits and pieces I don’t know there was enough tendon and fat that it was like overcooked to get it to be edible. I don’t know. And the red wine is a dollop of oil to make the colour of the normal pho to reddish. There’s minimal flavour differentiation. Don’t order it.
The noodles. Ok… pho noodles kept in fridge overnight have a texture. If the noodle is not rinsed out with hot water properly it sometimes needs a reboil (without breaking it into mush) or the “fridge” texture remains. They tried, shoulda microwaved it to keep it extra hot given the broth was lukewarm. Again most people had this feedback so I should have heeded advice.
The amount of shallots was suppose to differentiate it from Southern Pho, got it. I was not expecting bean sprouts, mint, perilla, sawtooth mint, viet mint, or Thai basil nothing. But the lack of onions, lack of coriander and just lack of every possible thing like meat was embarrassing.
The frieddddd donut is $2/for half a piece and it’s not complementary as it may appear (look every pho menu has a picture of the condiments so most people Instagram etc would assume coz no one mentioned it). And it was the smallest fried dough for a rip off $2.
The social media hype was a scam. The price was a joke. They are making tonnes of profit it’s almost a scam.
Unless you tell me that it has new management and I missed the plot ok. But never again.
Oh and the coffee - I would travel to Pho Tau Bay in Cabramatta for that amount of failed calories.
This place is all looks and good advertising avoid and do yourself a favour and go somewhere else. Or just do an instant noodle pho has more flavour minus...
Read more🏡First, I was attracted by the door of Pho Viet Xua 1919. Although it is not big, it is super warm! 🪇The guy was very enthusiastic. As soon as we sat down, he recommended several signature dishes to us. As expected, there were no thunders, all of them were treasures!
. 🌟 Must-order recommendation 1️⃣ Bun Cha Hanoi Grilled Lemongrass Pork Vermicelli Noodles and Salad I thought it was ordinary rice noodles? It turned out to be "fake Pho"! Soaked in the soup, it is sour, sweet and refreshing, and it is a breeze in the mouth. It is definitely a must-order! My little sister and I didn’t finish the meat, but we actually finished this🍯
. 2️⃣ Iced Salted Coconut Coffee with Cocoa Going to a Vietnamese restaurant without ordering coffee is like going in vain! I really love their coffee with condensed milk. This cup also has coconut fragrance and cocoa, which is simply a soul match! 🧋🧋🧋
. 3️⃣ Ice Peach Tea I ordered it for the appearance, but the taste is even better! One sip is like turning on the air conditioner. After eating meat and vegetables, take another sip to relieve the greasiness in seconds! This cup is absolutely necessary! 🫗
. 4️⃣ Combination Bread Pan Since I fell in love with bread dipped in beef soup, I must order it this time! Beef brisket, scrambled egg beef, and two eggs. The portion is so big that two people ate half of it after leaning against the wall. 🍱
. 5️⃣ Special Combination Rice Dish You can pair it with two kinds of meat! We chose honey BBQ and roast chicken. Every bite is delicious and the more you eat, the more you like it. However, the portion is so large that two people can't finish it at all, so they can only accept their fate and pack it up. 🥘
. 🌞 The atmosphere is perfect! ✨ The alley street view of this store is a big plus! Sit at the door to bask in the sun, watch the locals leisurely drink tea and chat, and feel happy~ Not only are there superb special dishes here, but also a full sense of downtown fireworks 🌤️ After eating, you can go to the surrounding shops to buy good things, you don’t want to...
Read moreA Flavorful Journey to Northern Vietnam at Pho Viet Xua 1919. The northern style pho was simply exquisite! The broth was incredibly flavorful, with a perfect balance of herbs and spices. The meat was tender and cooked to perfection. It's a must-try for any pho lover.
I also tried the Bun Cha, which was equally impressive. The grilled pork was juicy and full of flavor. The dipping sauce was a delightful combination of sweetness, tanginess, and a hint of spice. It's a dish that truly captures the essence of Vietnamese cuisine.
Phở Bò Đặc Biệt: The Phở Bò Đặc Biệt was a standout dish with its tender and flavorful beef. The combination of tái lăn (rare beef) and nạm (beef brisket) provided a delightful contrast of textures and flavors. The broth was rich and aromatic, with a hint of sweetness from the bone broth.
Phở Bò Sốt Vang: This unique pho dish features a rich red wine sauce that adds a depth of flavor to the broth. The beef was tender and the sauce was perfectly balanced, not overpowering the natural flavors of the ingredients.
Bún Chả Hà Nội: The Bun Cha Hanoi was a classic Vietnamese dish that was executed flawlessly. The grilled pork was juicy and flavorful, and the dipping sauce was the perfect balance of sweet, sour, and savory. The vermicelli noodles and fresh herbs provided a refreshing accompaniment to the grilled pork.
Cafe Sữa Dừa: The Cafe Sữa Dừa was a creamy and indulgent coffee drink. The rich coconut milk complemented the bold flavor of the coffee, creating a harmonious blend of sweet and savory.
Trà Đào Hạt Chia: The Trà Đào Hạt Chia was a refreshing and healthy drink. The sweet peach flavor was balanced by the subtle tartness of the chia seeds. The chia seeds added a satisfying texture to the drink and provided a boost of nutrients.
The atmosphere of the restaurant was humble, cozy and inviting, making it the perfect place to savor these delicious dishes. The service was friendly and attentive, ensuring a memorable dining experience. If you're looking for a taste of Vietnam in Sydney, Pho Viet Xua 1919 is...
