Service: 4/5 stars Staff are authentically Japanese, bright if a bit too exuberant at times, and gave good customer service. My only criticism would be their tendency to sometimes rush and disturb us a bit too much (taking away plates and the like). Customers are able to order with staff, as well as on one's phone with a QR code -- a cool system! Along with plastic separators between guests, it's not only efficient, but also helps with COVID-safety.

Sushi: 5/5 I can see why it's so highly-rated. Consistently high quality and properly-proportioned sushi, the neatest I've ever seen, reflective of their premium prices most nigiri were delicious, the rest were at least decent. Kaido specialises in their grilled range, but the raw salmon & onion was just as delicious, the raw kingfish sweet too. Freshness will always speak for itself it seems favourites were definitely the teriyaki scallop, pepper wagyu beef and vegetable tempura, which were absolutely mind-blowing in deliciousness. Scallop was soft and melt-in-your-mouth under a smoky, savoury and sweet sauce; I died and ascended to heaven! The pepper beef you could most definitely tell was wagyu, as tender yet bouncy, moist and perfectly-seasoned as it was (I usually don't like beef in sushi, but this was an exception). I never go for tempura on nigiri either, but this one was crispy, fragrant and salty ootoro (fatty tuna) nigiri was also amazing, but of course for $18 a pop you are literally paying for what you get unfortunate thing was the more popular nigiri selling out (I recommend coming earlier if you want the wagyu or cheesy scallop, though the latter was surprisingly only alright) grilled salmon not that great strangely, when the rest of the cooked range is awesome. Salmon belly only just elevated it to 'good' once grilled too.

Conclusion: I can see why people line up for Sushi Kaido, and it isn't just because it's a small restaurant; the sushi is top quality, delicious, authentic and well-presented. If only they were open for longer though -- their 3-, 3.5-hour meal durations seem...

This place is one of Sydney's first kaitenzushi (sushi-go-round) restaurants and till recently was formerly known as "Sushi Train" before it became a larger franchise. I've been a customer here for almost 20 years. Back then they actually used a large toy train set to deliver the dishes, hence the name Sushi Train. The train has since been retired over 10 years ago. I have a fond memory of a best friend decoupling the carriages twice in one visit here.

Initially I was sad to see the business name change but then very happy to see the chefs are still the same. The menu has been consistent over the years. Best of all, the menu still has the main traditional dishes found in kaitenzushi in Japan. Then, from time to time, the other dishes in the menu are updated to suit the fussy diners of Sydney but never overdoing it with flamboyance. The owner's attention to detail in this establishment is spot on. The flavour of the food, the customer service from the staff, the size of the establishment and the decor used; it takes me out of Sydney just for a moment while I enjoy my food. It places me into a small kaitenzushi restaurant just like when I was living in Japan a few years back. When I really miss good old fashion Japanese food and customer service, I come...

Attention all moms with babies!!!!! Avoid this place at all costs!!!!!!!This restaurant is extremely unfriendly towards infants and strollers. I've never been treated like this anywhere else in Australia. I was scolded and kicked out of the restaurant with my baby. When we arrived, all the seats were taken, so we waited at the entrance until a table in the corner became available. The staff guided us to the table and even found a spot for the stroller. But before I could sit down, an older male staff member, who I was told is the owner, rudely yelled at me to wait outside and not to sit there because I was blocking the way. I politely asked where I should sit instead, but he rudely ignored my question and kept insisting I leave. So, my mother, my four-month-old baby, and I were kicked out, all because we had a stroller. I followed the staff's directions the entire time and behaved politely, but we were still treated this way. The entire restaurant could hear what happened. This is the first time since becoming a mother that I've been treated so poorly. I feel incredibly frustrated and upset. How could someone be so rude and...

We went around 6:30pm and the lines were super long. Approx 45mins waiting time to get in. However well worth the wait. We were seated quickly and given really fresh wasabi and ginger. It used to be a sushi train but it's now a standard sit in and order Japanese restuarant. Everything was made to order which meant everything came out fresh and warm which i actually preferred to if it was a sushi train instead. They had set meals e.g. 8 pieces of nigiri for set $. But you could also order them separately. We ordered the 4pcs aburi terayaki salmon + 4pc aburi scallop set which was fresh and tasty. We also ordered soft shell crab rolls which i would 100% recommend because it was really crispy and they gave you a lot of soft shell crab. We also got takoyaki and tried the prawn salad ship which had really nice flavours. We also ordered extra aburi scallops because they were just so good! Very satisfied customer and this place is worth the hype! Be advised prices are more expensive than your standard sushi train/restuarant, however you can certainly taste the freshness and quality of the fish that makes it worth it.

Tried mainly due to location being so convenient next to Westfield and the stations by public transport. Of course you couldn’t compare the place to those in Japan but I think you’d mainly come due to the convenience of the location. I can tell it’s very popular among locals living at Chatswood. It got really busy even at only 6pm requiring almost 30min wait in the queue. Food was alright but nothing wow in Sydney’s Japanese food standard. Prices are reasonable in Australia’s standard. Service was prompt and friendly. Servers may appear stressed when the place gets busy, but it’s understandable. They still tried to repeat your order to make sure they get things right. Fish were fresh especially the specials. But the rice of the sushi may break apart easily in a few sushi’s tried — probably due to inadequate or uneven pressure applied by the chefs. I would recommend it to anyone who happens to be around the area and looking for a sushi place to sit down. But I wouldn’t recommend if you live far away to come here, as there are better choices around other parts of north shore anyway.
