Shocker - Worst PappaRich Outlet
I have been a loyal patron to this brand for many years being an ex-Malaysian. Our favorite outlet was Macquarie Centre for years until the previous owner left.
Since then, we have noticed a serious slide with the hygiene and quality of the food especially. All the happy and courteous staff have long left the cafe.
Yesterday I visited the Chatswood store with some family members visiting from Singapore.
What a shock...the first table we sat at was covered with sticky liquid and food scraps. There was a putrid smell under the table, and we noticed fair few food scraps on the floor. We moved tables and got the staff to wipe down the table, she did it with a bad attitude and used a filthy old cloth without any cleaning spray. This should have been our cue to leave the cafe.
Hence this review. It also appears that there has been so many bad reviews last 12 months regarding the hygiene and food quality with no action taken by the parent company.
Listed are the issues we had yesterday:
Filthy table and floor
Unhygiene cleaning products used
Filthy cutlery container and cutlery
Nasi lemak - tasteless boil white rice used (where is the proper traditional coconut rice?)
Tasteless curry chicken and 3 small pieces (cost cutting from the original curry served)
Portion size totally downsized from what it its meant to be.
Lychee soda drink - one small piece of lychee and filled with ice.
Chicken rice - under cooked chicken. Again, the rice was basic white boiled and tasteless.
And the lists goes on.
Ps. my sincere advice to the Parent Company - take serious remedial steps to stop your brand from being destroyed by this 'owner' at Chatswood and...
Read moreWe had a couple of bad experiences at their old location with the poor quality of food, so we assumed that at the new location things would be better but we were wrong.
We arrived and were shown to and seated at a dirty table. The manager came quickly with someone to clean the table. They did not show us to a clean table which was weird.
We were given dirty cups for water, one still had lipstick, thus we had to ask for new ones, but were obviously given the same cups just wiped down. THey had the same scuff marks.
THe tablet which must be used for ordering was dirty, and the manager had to wipe that too.
Then the food...
Rice was overcooked, and mushy in nasi goreng. I asked for sambal, but was told that would cost extra?!? Unfortuantely I couldnt force myself to finish it.
Barely any chicken in the chicken rice dish. Broth was, well, not good, not worth finishing.
Roti canai came with a big hole in it missing - looked like someone had already helped themselves to it. We asked the waiter why, and he went to the manager in front of us smiling and laughing about it. THe manager came to the table and told us it was normal. Funny that, I never had a "donut" roti whilst working in Singapore and Malaysia. I have never ever seen one, even now searching the Internet.
For the prices they charge, one would expect and should be given better.
There are so many better Malaysian restaurants in Chatswood, cheaper, better quality and service.
A bit of a shame really for the...
Read moreI have been refraining from reviewing as I travel too much but felt that I have to do this one... I have been coming to Chatswood Papa Rich for some spicey food (as well as Macquarie shopping centre) for over 5 years from back when they were several doors down from the police station. The current situation at Westfield's- The quality has suffered and portion sizes have gradually reduced over the years (similar to MacDonald's in Australia). The chicken rice now tastes like rubber. It is also pricy ie u need to order extra chicken to fill your tummy at extra cost. The Rendang beef only has a few cubes of beef. However, I still go there often. Best to dine in as take away seems to have smaller portions since they have to pack into small containers.
Also, even though I pay same price for takeaway, if I sit at a seat when the shop is mainly empty to wait for someone after collecting the takeaway (only 2 seated customers) around 3pm, the same male waiter there keeps pressure me to leave by asking are you waiting for someone etc multiple times). Very annoying!!!
One time there was hair in a lychee drink too so you better check yours!
The staff overall are friendly and the food is still acceptable for a dine in experience.
Note if u r on a budget, u can get better value for money tastier chicken rice at a Vietnamese shop out at...
