We live very far from this restaurant now, but once in a while, try and make it here. It is a nostalgic place for us - brings back memories of our university days when no bookings were taken and queues were long, and the set menus a bargain for the quantity and quality that you got. The place was always buzzing and packed.
We were so shocked to find that we were only one of two tables on a Saturday night. Granted, we ate a bit late, around 8pm. Made us wonder if we had made a mistake revisiting this old joint...
Thankfully, food is still very decent, fresh, well presented, and portions are generous. Yes, prices have gone up significantly since our uni days but that is to be expected.
Parking was horrendous as expected around the area on a Saturday night. Feel sad for the owners that the place was so quiet. Hoping it was an anomaly and that the restaurant survives... The ambience was just a bit off, eating in a nearly empty restaurant, despite us relishing the quietness of it. Particularly as we know how packed this place was the last...
Read moreSushi Suma is definitely not somewhere you go for excellent or even particularly interested service. But they are very efficient, the food is exceptional and the servings are enormous! The sashimi salad never appealed to me when I read it on the menu (cabbage and sashimi? Surely that would never fill me up!) but once I saw someone else order it I realised my mistake. Stacks of delicious, raw fish including tuna, salmon and my favourite - kingfish. There is so much I struggled to finish it and at $13 it's ridiculously cheap.
I've shared one of the set menu boats which a friend, and it seemed like the food just kept arriving. You cannot question the generosity of their servings.
It can be a bit hard to get a table, and it doesn't seem to matter whether you book - you just end up in the same line anyway. It's a simple, honest place which serves excellent Japanese - I definitely recommend it if you're looking for somewhere without lots of...
Read moreI’ve been going to this restaurant since 2003. Back then the prices were very attractive for the combination sets. The food quality was excellent too. It’s a place where my family’s been coming to every year. However yesterday’s experience was leaving me less than satisfied. Whilst prices have to keep going up which is understandable, the food quality should at least be the same or be consistent. I could not say the same for the pork katsu. It felt like a reheated item or just not as tasty as what I used to remember. The number of customers on a friday night also signify strong competition around the area for what used to be a bustling restaurant. I hope for the standards to improve before I can up my feedback. It is still a cosy setting.
I would recommend their sushi, sashimi, beef teriyaki, fish teriyaki and tempura if...
