We live in the general area and spend a lot of time at Milsons Park and we chose The Flying Bear for a mid-week breakfast to belatedly celebrate our anniversary. It was a decision largely based on the waterside location and the dog-friendliness and on both of those factors it delivered.
The food however was very disappointing in terms of quality, quantity and cost. We spent a shade under $60 for 2 basic breakfasts and coffee which, by anyones standards, is a lot but would have been palatable if the food lived up to it. It didn't!
Firstly, it took nearly 45 minutes to arrive and whilst it was busy, it wasn't to the point that this was justified.
Mine, poached eggs on toast with a side of bacon ($22) was cold and the eggs were overcooked. One slice of toast, zero effort to make it look presentable.
My wife, Smashed Avo on toast with a side of Feta ($23). Again, a sorry slice of toast, very little taste (imagine nice textured avo, juicy & tasty tomatoes, chunky and sharp feta with a beautiful evoo drizzle... yeh, none of that). A mushy mess on toast.
Then $13 for two coffees.
I would have provided this feedback in the moment had any one of the wait staff thought to ask how we were going in the 1:20 that we were there.
All in all a disappointing experience and likely...
Read moreThere is only one good thing about this restaurant is their location.
Firstly, their waitress are very rude. It is my first time to go to Kirribilli and had a lunch there. I tried to order using their app and found out there are only 6 to 7 options. I tried to ask the waitress whether they have more options. I kept saying “ excuse me”. Even though when I raise my voice and I am pretty sure that the waitress could hear me BUT they pretended that they didn’t hear me. I walked to one the waitress who is an Asian girl. Even thought I stood in front of her, she seemed try to pretend that she didn’t see me at all and didn’t want to talk to me. I was so upset and decided not to have a lunch there but my mum was really hungry and there are not many options there.
The other bad things are their food. Their food is unbelievable expensive and taste terrible. We ordered a veggie bowl with baked salmon and the pumpkin salary with chicken. The both side of the salmon were burnt and black color and their chicken is the worse chicken I have ever had in my life. Their chicken tastes like paper, dry and rough. If they are not one of the only two restaurants in the Jacaranda area, I think they will...
Read moreFirstly, there are no reservations taken, so it’s lord of the flies once a table leaves to secure a seat. This means that you sit down at tables with plates, food scraps, crumbs and napkins all over them, and they are never quite clean. Eventually the (very overworked) staff will pick them up. I felt bad for them, as they were absolutely smashed and understaffed. The location is first class but the cafe is all a bit worn and grubby tbh. People are waiting for an opportunity to sit, eyeing off your empty plates - can’t think of a less relaxing atmosphere for breakfast. On top of that , the food was average at best, choices standard (avocado, bacon, eggs, sourdough, yawn), the chicken pie was on the verge of inedible without tomato sauce, probably 50% veges. Other items that came out took ages, and were mostly quite plain. The hot chocolate was basically shot glass-sized and caused a bit of...
