My partner and I had dinner here during our trip to Lech and unfortunately left with a very bad taste in our mouths—literally and figuratively.
While the evening began on a positive note, it quickly turned unpleasant when we discovered a large piece of hair in our meat fondue just a few bites in. We calmly brought it to the attention of our server, who was kind and apologetic, and offered to replace the dish. We declined, as we had lost our appetite, and discreetly asked for the bill—expecting a respectful resolution.
Instead, the situation escalated into something I still can’t quite believe. Despite barely eating the fondue, we were presented with a full bill. When I asked to have the fondue removed, two servers came to our table, one of whom pointed out that no one in the kitchen had hair, neither themselves, that matched what we found—an irrelevant and frankly defensive response. The fact remains: there was someone else’s hair in our food. It wasn’t ours, and it shouldn’t have been there.
Then came the owner, who had been drinking and doing shots all night with the staff and guests. When he finally approached our table, he was completely dismissive of our concerns. Instead of handling the issue professionally, he told us flat-out that he didn’t care. He claimed we had eaten “too much” of the fondue to not pay for it (we hadn’t) and insisted we cover the full cost of the meal.
He offered us a shot of schnapps as an apology—which felt more like part of his ongoing party with the staff than a sincere gesture. This isn’t how you run a professional restaurant.
As a business owner in the service industry myself, I was shocked. It’s one thing to make a mistake—it’s another to be so careless with food hygiene and so rude and disrespectful when a problem is brought to your attention. The staff had clearly been drinking, and I question how that impacted both cleanliness in the kitchen and the owner’s judgment in dealing with guests. We left hungry, disrespected, and made to feel like we were the problem.
Needless to say, we’ll never return. I hope this review helps others make a more informed choice. There are excellent restaurants in the area run by people who value their guests and take pride in their service. This, unfortunately, is not...
Read moreThis was such a pleasant (and tasty) surprise!
We went there for dinner on a Monday night in late August. The place looks like a traditional Austrian house, low ceilings, wood everywhere, really cosy and pleasant.
The waiters were really kind and accommodating with us not knowing any German, which felt really nice.
I had the Grostl Fried potatoes with black pudding. The small portion was plenty for one person. Definitely a GREAT choice. The black pudding was incredibly delicious, the potatoes are like roughly chopped and fried, comes with chopped onions and bacon, all fried. What a treat!
My partner had veal schnitzel, which was also SO nice. The bread coating was really crunchy, the meat was so so so tasty. You get two pieces of it and redcurrant sauce.
For dessert I ordered a crème brulée, which was absolutely incredible. My partner ordered an Apple Struddle. I think it was the BEST one we had all week, all the spices and sweetness were there, as expected, nothing was missing. The portion was big, so it's easily a...
Read moreI love the "Hus8"! When you drive into Lech the restaurant is the great little house on the the left at the beginning of the main street, looks beautiful and is just like a warm welcome the the village. The food of the Hus8 is typical Austrian, including my favourite cheese soup and Backhendlsalad. We have had fondue here as well (both Chinoise as well as cheese fondue), was excellent. I appreciated much that they offered another round of meat for no extra cost. The service is super helpful. Sitting outside in the afternoon when you returned from the slopes, with the sun smiling at your face, a cheese soup and a beer in front of you -...
