I had an extremely disappointing experience at this restaurant. I was treated with rudeness and a complete lack of respect. I am a woman. After waiting patiently for a table where we could order food, a waiter came over and, in a loud voice, told me there was no food available—despite the restaurant being full of patrons waiting to dine.
When my family joined myself and moved to a newly available table he approached us again, saying that the table was reserved for a group, even though we were previously told by another waiter to wait for a table to open up. It was only after I stood my ground and explained the situation that he finally offered a few food options, but with little kindness or professionalism.
Overall, his attitude was abrasive and unwelcoming. It’s a shame because the place itself seemed wonderful, but this level of service left a very negative impression.
Read moreMy partner and I travelled around North Europe and we will fly from Munich back to New Zealand in a couple of days. Hallstatt had attracted my partner so much since she watched a Chinese TV show almost 20 years ago, so we drove a long way yesterday from Munich to visit this famous town. We took the cable car to the top of the hill and just wanted to sit in Rudolfsturm Cafe enjoying the marvelous view. We did not know how to order some drinks so came inside, one of the male waiters was laughing at us with no reason. We got the menu and sit outside waiting for order but it seemed they were very busy so I came inside the cafe again and was trying order from the counter. The same waiter was yelling at me and pushed me on my shoulder to outside. He was so rude and really upset me. I understand that so many tourists come to Hallstatt everyday and the town is stuffed with people from China, Taiwan, Korea etc. I guess our Chinese face made the waiter uneasy. The trip was totally ruined. Hallstatt was a picturesque, peaceful and friendly small town in that TV show, but not now. Really sorry to see this and my partner was so...
Read moreAvoid this place if you want food. We had know idea going to the village was super close once you exit the funicular, walk 10 minutes to Hallstatt Village for restaurants.
If you want a cup of coffee/tea then it’s worth it to sit outside to enjoy the view. Otherwise this place is way over priced and the service was not pleasant.
If you want coffee, order at the bar and pay. Stand there and wait for your drinks.
If you want to dine in, go seat yourself. There are more tables upstairs. The same person taking coffee orders at the bar was the same person that took our orders so you can imagine the wait once we were seated. He was the same person that brought out our food.
In the end, if you pay cash, then you’ll have to pay at the bar because they don’t carry change. Or you can pay by credit card on the spot.
The menu selection was limited. Austria is all about the schnitzel so we got that with a side of potato salad and cup of cafe melange. The food was okay and knowing that you could get more options for much lower price at the village...
